“I met up with Dana. He was cool and said we could do business. We exchanged numbers and I texted him all night, ‘Don’t forget chicken ****!’ But I was sitting behind Chuck Liddell and I could tell he was uncomfortable with my presence. …I think I can break records with the UFC. I would fight Kimbo Slice, Chuck Liddell, or Randy Couture. Brock Lesnar, too. He could get it and we would do a ton of buys.”

Liddell, Couture, and Lesnar would all embarrass Toney.

Yeah, you're barking up the wrong tree buddy. Give Strikeforce a call, they're always game for a guy with a name regardless of whether or not he can fight (Herschel Walker anyone?).

haha @ the SF comment. Ironic since Hendo just got dropped and Tito and Kimbo are in the UFC.

Walker has to prove himself but that guy was a HECK of an athlete in his time---much greater than anyone in any of the divisions right now.

BUT, James Toney is a Boxer so he is definitely NOT afraid of fighting those guys. I have no idea what his exposure is to actual MMA fighters but I can't imagine that he's never been around any. Dude is out of his mind but he has also some of the greatest gym fights in the history of sparring in Philly.

I would like to see him fight some guys and YES, he would pull in more viewers...not as many as RJJ but he would pull guys I know who would never watch an MMA fight but don't miss a boxing match. Never ever front on an amazing boxer with great sprawl. They can devastate.

But do you have any reason to believe this guy has a great sprawl? Nope. And thats why he'd be joke.

Here he is sprawling in training on an attempted shot.

I have no idea. Mayweather was a wrestler in HS from what I've heard.

Maybe Toney was too. I have no idea. I know that if he gets a good sprawl, then it won't be as big an issue. I am not a person that rights off fighters before they get to fight. Sure I might think that an MMA guy would win, but who knows? That's why you fight them---that's what makes it intriguing. What a MMA guy has is the ability to go to the ground IF he's not KO'd and IF the boxer can't stop the shots (which they probalby won't). I wrestled in HS, then did boxing before I went to Muy Thai and I didn't find it that challenging. IN fact, there were mistakes that MMA guys did with their hands and stance that I would try to exploit in training. MOST MMA guys train hands alot but may have a higher proficiency with legs, elbows, etc...or a proclivity for it. BOxers are going to fall into their natural tendencies and in a fight will probably NOT throw any leg shots and be constantly thinking about someone shooting on them so they will not plant a lot for combos.

But we all know Toney can't get a PPV at this point in his career so he's looking for a way to get a payday. :) Still, I like fights fought in real life.

Honestly, I follow boxing, and Toney doesn't have a style that would translate well into MMA. He stands still, takes 90% of punches off his shoulder, and barely throws anything but jabs. He'd get torn apart under MMA rules. Some guys would make an excellent transition, but Toney isn't one of them.
