LAS VEGAS – His pleas for the job apparently worked; Tito Ortiz will serve as a coach on the upcoming 11th season of "The Ultimate Fighter."

UFC officials confirmed the assignment during Saturday's The Ultimate Fighter 10 Finale at The Pearl at the Palms Casino Resort.

The other part of the surprise? Ortiz will coach against Chuck Liddell, not Forrest Griffin, on the upcoming season of the reality series, and the coaches will meet in a season-ending fight.

After dropping a close split decision to Griffin last month in the UFC 106 main event, Ortiz campaigned for the two to be coaches on "TUF 11." UFC officials, though, chose Liddell instead.

"TUF 11" begins taping in January and debuts on Spike TV in April. The show is expected to feature middleweight fighters.

The only thing more "5 years ago" they could have done is Chuck/Randy 4

I really don't care to see this fight, I would have preffered Tito and Forrest be coaches.

It seemed Dana was less than thrilled to announce these coaches.

And what was the deal when he said he had no idea what weight next season would be fought at then someone just offscreen told him. I wonder who that was?

Meh.... at least this is one fight Chuck can still win. He has Tito's number. Tito doesn't have the power to knock chuck out (even with the degradation of his Chuck's chin) and Chuck's wrestling is one part of his game that still seems as good as ever. I got Chuck by TKO or UD.

This is ratings.

Honestly, IMO, I wouldn't mind to have a Masters division where the old guys fought each other. why not? they are more evenly matched with one another. Chuck v. Ortiz is a better fight than Chuck v. Machida. these guys can still fight and still have their trademark styles but they look tarnished against the younger guys. Everybody gets old but these guys still have something IF they want to give it for the fans. I'd watch. I do watch.

Tito also called this fight, over 1,000,000 times in the past 2 years.

Who hasn't?

And as for the masters division, it's a good idea you just don't have to call it anything. I feel like they're basically already doing it. Just look at this match up.

Boxing has been doing this sucessfully for years. ****, they still are. Roy Jones was supposed to be setting up a fight with Bernard Hopkins just the other day and he got knocked out in the first round. Guess who Hopkins wants to fight now? Roy Jones.

Ratings.

That's who I thought and was hoping it would be as well, much better than Tito Chuck 3.....oh well. Chuck will KO him, too bad the odds will suck! I really was wishing in the very back of my mind that it was going to be Marquardt and Henderson....would have awesome! Another good one would have been bringing back 2 weight classes and doing Champions.......Brock and GSP anyone?!

Yet another reason not to give a damn about TUF. Like I needed any more of those.

I'm just not excited to see either of these guys fight anyone let alone eachother. Seriously how stale does this show have to become before they scrap it all together? I would trade weekly episodes of TUF for a monthly live event and not even think twice.

They need to make it happen some time soon. TUF has jumped the shark.

I actually like this, i think both were great coaches in the past and will create a lot of friction on the show. But most of all im just tired of champions and top contenders being sidelined for 8 months to film the show. . .

I like this as neither guy is a contender so the outcome wont tie up the belt and both are fun to watch.

THe UFC exlpoded really quickly and is expanding. I really like some of the programming, but they may begin to suffer a little bit from getting all the glory and also all the blame.

When they first started off, they were a much smaller organization that could pivot quickly with the market and TUF really helped them expand and explode their market share and gain greater viewership. Since that time, they've lost some of their main even attractions while adding more and more PPV main event attractions. At the same time, the ratings for SPIKE's TUF have consistently gone down. THings had to get more crazy for people to watch and even that was starting to not work....then they got Kimbo for ratings which worked...but once he lost in the beginning, they had to tease people with him the whole time to keep ratings. Even then, not sure that many people watched.

I enjoy MMA so I'm not attached to one organization but the it appears that the UFC carries many many more fighters under contract than before and is putting on more promotions than ever before. They are not a small agile company any more that can pivot with the market.

Strikeforce seems to be trying to get into the position that the UFC was in its earlier days. It can pick up fighters from other organizations, match make competitive fights with fighters that may or may not be the "best" in their weight class but can put on good shows and they can put their shows on free tv as well as cable. No PPV revenue for them yet which is a different model than the UFC but the are strong on the Live Gate promotion side of things.

We need a few more solid organizations like this on regular tv, espn, etc.... for the growth of MMA. This will push the UFC into the free tv realm as well and build up a whole lot more fighters for us to root for....right now the UFC is really reaching back for names since it can't seem to reach forward.
