There has been a lot of bad press surrounding MMA fights and the UFC. Many critics say that mixed martial arts are barbaric and gruesome and are nothing more than amateur street brawls. The beginning of the MMA movement in America and the inception of the UFC did not help matters at firs as they promoted the sport as the most violent combat sport available and only helped to further the negative serotype. Originally, MMA fights were banned in many states but after stricter rules were put in place and new UFC owners worked to change the barbaric stereotype, the MMA movement has gained huge popularity.

It was kind of them to let a fifth grader write an article for their site. Grammar would have to be a C+ but i'd give the paper overall an A-.

But regardless of the article's quality I'm glad to see this kind of thing out there. It may be rather shallow and bare bones, but it might convince a few people. Every bit helps.

Didn't read it yet but I have been training for 2 1/2 years competed in Sub Grap matches and Kickboxing I never have been hurt in a fight and have had a pretty bad sprained Knee and ankle, also a small tear of my shoulder in practice. I have a guy I work with that has hurt his knee shoulder lower back and bicep in the same time period. He dosn't work out or do any type of sport he recived these injurys by simply living life. I don't see how it is anymore dangerous then any other contact sport. I will read when I get home and give my thoughts if I have any then.

Almost all sports are inheritantly dangerous; that's why we have rules, refs, and safety precautions like doctors ringside and such. It comes with the competition and the territory, if you don't like it don't participate.

It's very dangerous but it is a sport where it is acceptable to quit. When I boxed I would just get hit repeatedly in the head...not so good for you. You can't quit in boxing, you could never fight again and all the head trauma catches up. In MM you can tap out, give up an RNC or armbar if you just can't go anymore....

Just so there is no confusion and people don't start talking like idiots, Mixed Martial Arts is a singular noun. The correct way to say the article title is "Is Mixed Martial Arts Dangerous?"

IS Mixed Martial Arts Dangerous?

Are our Children Learning?

Exactly! To be "Are" it would have to be "Are Homosexual Skinhead Fighters Dangerous?" or "Are Homosexual Skinheads Fighting Dangerous?" or "Are Homosexuals 'Skinhead Fighting' Dangerous?"
