"The UFC asked me to fight the catchweight fights to help Silva and Belfort make the drop down to 185 pounds. But now I’ve lost my ranking at 185 and 205. It’s crazy — I can headline a card and not be top-10 ranked. I took the Belfort fight because Dana called and asked me, even though I wasn’t quite where I needed to be physically or mentally. Now, I’m not making excuses, that’s just the nature of the fight game. But now I’m taking some time off and probably won’t fight again until April or May. I need to rest and relax and recover a little bit and I also hate prepping for a fight in the wintertime. Cincinnati can get pretty cold and I hate running and working out when the temperature is always zero.”

News flash: Belfort beat Martin and Lindland at 185 and went back up to fight the pet detective.

It just hits a nerve when fighters say something about them not being in top physical or mental shape..its pretty simple really..DON'T TAKE THE FIGHT THAN. If your not confident because your not where you want to be than get to where you want to be and than fight

Long time since ive heard anything from Rich. Him and Jardine seem to have totally dropped off the radar. I like Richs attitude, if the UFC asks him to fight, he takes it regardless, even if he is being messed about and not being allowed to settle at one weight class.

I am guessing he is talking Fahrenheit. I would say -20C is cold enough.

vitor has been fighting at 185 for a while now so it's strange that they needed to transisition him to 185 by fighting a catchweight fight.

It's tough ...many/most fans don't want to hear the "excuses" but often there is validity to them. In football nobody seems to mind knowing a player was playing w/an injury but in one on one sports where it can have an even bigger impact we seem to be more turned off by it.

I think we should judge the excuses based on the fighter. Some fighters have something to say about every fight they lose and some guys (like franklin) rarely make an excuse.

I like knowing about things that could have impacted a fighters performance but i don't like hearing excuses after every loss.

The simple answer for this is for Rich to face contenders at 205.
First up Tito ;though not a legit contender i want to see Rich mess up all of Ortiz's game.
From there someone like Evans ,Lil Nog,Rampage,Shogun, maybe Couture.
IF he can win both insta-title shot.

I'm from Yellowknife, and I'm pretty sure you have to wear a coat at 0 (Farenheit) no matter how used to the cold you are. That's around -18 Celcius.

Anyway, I think the only reason he's not "ranked" at middleweight is because he's not fighting there anymore. I'm sure most people still consider him easily top5 middleweight if not top3. The only reason he's not ranked at 205 yet is that the only fight that could put his ranking into perspective is the loss to Hendo. There isn't enough information to rank him at 205, and he's not fighting at 185, so of course he doesn't have a generally agreed upon ranking.

i think he's around #3 or #4 rank as a mw and he's knocking on the door of the top 10 as a lhw. i'd say h's somewhere from #10-#15.
props to this guy he fights anyone and he always puts on an exciting fight.

Wow.. Never thought of that. Rich headlined 103 and 99 and you rarely see him on the rankings except I saw him at #10 at 205 on Sherdog.

What utter BS.The Belfort happening at 195 had NOTHING to do with helping Vitor "transition" to middleweight or anything like that.Go back and read the news from when that fight was announced.Origanaly it was to be at 205 pounds-then Belfort balked, because he had no interest in fighting at 205 anymore and was only interested in fighting at 185.Rich wouldn't move down to 185 for the fight, but he would go to 195,so that's where they fought it.That fight could have been at 185 if Rich wanted it.It could have been at 205 if he would have put his foot down.

And FWIW,his fights at 195 should not effect his ranking whatsoever, since 195 is still light heavyweight, and is ranked as such.

Brian.
