Heavy.com was able to dig down into the Shane McMahon/UFC talks and exactly what his role would be for the promotion. Some of what they were able to gather from their sources was very interesting:

But five years after the initial explosion of popularity built by The Ultimate Fighter reality show, you don’t see a strong UFC brand in the marketplace. While you might expect a thriving brand of UFC t-shirts and hats to be sold in Wal-Marts nationwide, instead you find-almost nothing.

Here, more than anywhere else, is where the UFC can use McMahon’s help. Not only has he witnessed firsthand the WWE’s slow march to wrestling ubiquity, he has personally secured much of the company’s foreign business deals. McMahon has successfully made millions in the United Kingdom and German markets, even successfully taking the WWE into the heart of Western Europe, and can likely replicate that success for the UFC.

I think this can only be a good thing with Shane McMahon's proven track record. It's also probably better to have him on board than as a competitor.

The only issue here is going to be how much of an equity stake he wants in the UFC, because he isn't gonna make the move as just an employee.

I'm not huge on conspiracy theories... BUT... what if this is a plan to bring down the UFC? Perhaps Vince finds the UFC as a threat, so he tells Shane to get on the inside and sabotage the biggest name in MMA?

Does anyone think this is a possibility?

Now I don't believe this is the case but it was just a thought I had. In reality I believe Shane sees the money that can be made in this growing business and wants in.

Shane working with the UFC can only lead to bigger and better things. As much as I dislike the WWE I simply cannot ignore the fact that they are literally worldwide. Vince and Shane took the company to places the UFC has yet to reach, with Shane in the mix it just adds another very sharp business individual that could very possibly take the UFC to the "next level" in sports. Hell imo Shane has more business sense than Dana. I look forward to seeing Shane working with the UFC

this is gooood for the UFC.

Shane is a big fan he has said it multiple times and has butted heads with his father over MMA. Shane wanted to have WWE buy partial ownership in an MMA company for a few years, and Vince didnt want too so now he can just do that on his own with the UFC :P
