Are the calling this UFC 109 because it is the combined ages of these two?

Seriously though...2 hall of famers...that is awesome

I actually really like this matchup. I feel neither guy is much of a threat to the top of either the HW or LHW divisions at this point. I'd love to see two old bastards who bring it like these two do go at it. Two great wrestlers- one freestyle, one Greco, both old as hell, both HoF. I think it will be awesome.

It might actually be a good fight.

I mean, just because two young guns are getting in the ring doesn't mean it is going to be a great fight. I see no difference here.

That being said, I can see where many are coming from in terms of the age of both fighters. However, I think there is a difference between a old great fighter fighting a younger fighter, where the young guy nullifies the old guy with his strength and stamina (thus making a boring fight) vs. a fight between two old greats where that strength and stamina differential is null (at least in terms of age differences).

I say this match up has no less of a chance to be an exciting fight than most others.

Really? So I don't like MMA because I don't want to watch two antiques hug and dry hump for fifteen minutes? Don't get me wrong these guys are hall of famers and paved the way for mma to become what it is today. I just think there is more entertaining match ups for these two and for a headliner on a PPV. Coleman vs Jardine, Irvin, or even lil Nog would be much better. Randy vs Franklin would be stellar aswell. Just not a fan of this match.

People must have a lot less confidence in couture than I do. I don't think he'll be champ again or beat any of the top 4-5 (Maybe Forrest or Thiago) but I think he's better than having to fight Coleman. Maybe its that people give coleman more credit than I do, I think he's done.

Either way I see this as a very easy win for couture. I'll pay to see couture fight anyone but I don't understand why the UFC would put together this match up.

I've been wanting to see this fight for years.

I'm looking foward to it.
But with that being said though,I wish this fight would have happened after Coleman won the PRIDE GP.

I disagree with you, I myself am what you call "a real mma fan" and just because I think this might no be a good choice for a main event and that it won't be that exciting of a fight, doesn't make me less of a fan

I will never frown upon a "legends" type matchup, but what really makes things fuzzy about this matchup is the question of relevancy it has in the division - i.e. "Title implications". I question whether or not a victory actually gets either of them closer to a title shot (in the eyes of the fans or course) if this is strictly just a "legends" matchup then cool, no problem put it as the co-main.

Having said all of that, I could definitely get behind a "Legends" type card considering Matt Hughes, Couture, Coleman, and 2 Gracies are competing (Rolles not really a legend, but has a rich historic lineage).
