Speaking last week via the telephone from his base in Las Vegas, Nevada, Randy said:

“It was more about opportunity. I think I’ve competed with those bigger guys and been doing just fine. Obviously it will be nice to be back with guys my own size and not have to deal with the disparaging weight difference and size difference. It eliminates some of those strategic situations you don’t want to get in with guys that big. The opportunity arose to compete back at 205 pounds, there’s some interesting fights there. The heavyweight division is getting deeper, there’s Velasquez, Carwin and Lesnar and a lot of other guys that aren’t just big heavyweights, they’re very good fighters and good athletes so all around it makes sense for me to be at 205 right now.”

smart move by couture.

i think he would be just fine at HW and handle himself, but like he said, strategic positions u dont wanna be in arise when ur fighting a guy whos 40 lbs heavier than u.

imo he gonna handle Vera pretty easily, Vera has great striking and sum pretty good Greco, but i dont think hes on the level Randy is, old geezer or not lol. i'm takin Couture 3rd rd tko, but one hell of a fight til it gets there.

I think he's going to really spruce up 205 for the time that he's in it. Unless Vera pounds him tough... then, we will see but I don't see that happening.

I dont see Couture doing so great at 205, he wont have a speed advantage anymore, and there are so many great strikers at 205.

But I cant wait to see him fight some of the new blood in UFC 205
Rashaad
Thiago
shogun/machida
A. Silva...
Cane
Nog (I wish he would have fought lil nog instead of Vera, Back2Back Nogs)
Franklin

so many great match ups

but i only see Couture winning half...

Couture belongs at 205 at this point in time. I dont see him getting the belt, but there are a lot of interesting matchups for him at LHW

Randy back at 205 is pretty awesome. I wanna see him fight Shogun, Machida, Ortiz, Griffin, Rashad, Rampage, Franklin, any of these fights would be ******* awesome.

If Randy loses against Vera I think they should have him fight Coleman, would be pretty easy to try and market this fight. If he wins he should fight the Ortiz if he wins too.

I think he cud do well a think he beats Vera then may be let him fight the winner of Evans/Silva.Then move on to a number 1 contender fight against somone like Cain/Nog if there still un beating there is a few intresting fights.Randy just make's the best weight division in the UFC get better.

Cain and Nog are heavyweights. He just left heavyweight because those guys are huge and Nog schooled him.Maybe you're just unable to properly spell Luis Cane's name and unable to be specific about the Nogs.

ditto...that seems like a good matchup...if tito beats forrest and randy beats vera than that match would actually be a good number one contender match

It's funny how Randy is saying the same thing as what he said when he came out of retirement to fight at HW.

When he went back up to HW to fight Sylvia he was commenting on how he noticed issues with the HWs that he thought he could exploit. Now he is saying that they are too big and strong for him to do that.

Now, like when he moved up to HW, there are interesting fights at LHW.

I guess I can't knock him for being smart about it, I just thought the 180 turn around was a little ironic.
