Nate Maquardt vs. Chael Sonnen in the works for UFC 110

With Dan Henderson's contract in limbo, it looks as if Chael Sonnen will step in and take on Nate Marquardt at UFC 110.

Strange they didn't do Marquardt vs. Belfort instead since Anderson doesn't seem to want to fight either guy at the moment.I do suppose that Joe Silva and crew don't want to risk killing off one of their top contenders with a match like that, with the additional possibility of the winner of the bout getting injured.

A Nate vs. Chael fight is kind of a win-win.If Nate wins,he's most likely going to do it impressively and you've just gotten him more air time to hype a rematch with Anderson. If Chael wins, you have a new contender who's never fought Anderson before. And it leaves Vitor around to fight Anderson or whoever.

Ought to be a decent scrap.

Brian.

Marquardt by whatever he wants.

Chael looked good vs Yushin, but Marquardt is too big for Chael, amongst other things.

I like it ... it's a pretty fresh fight in a fairly stale division.

I don't think size is going to play much of a factor in this match-what size advantage Nate will have will be negated by Chael's strength, espically in the clinch.

The difference in the fight is going to be Nate's vastly improved striking game, and his BJJ.Chael is pretty much going to have to rely on putting Nate on his back and keeping him there-without getting subbed or swept-for 15 minutes. To me,that is highly doubtful, but stranger things have happened.I didn't think Chael was going to man handle Dan Miller and Yushin Okami either.

Brian.

Should be a good fight. Sonnen was supposed to get owned by Miller and Okami, yet he 30-27'd both of them. I still like Nate here though.

Chael's wrestling nullifies the tiny size advantage. Marquardt is probably too well rounded, but not too big.

I have a hunch this fight (which I predict will end as Nate winning by mauling) is a model for how Jake will fare if he comes to the UFC.

Why do they want Chael to suffer a violent death?

He was? He was 20% pick with Okami, but that was expected after his quick loss to Maia and his lacklustre win against Miller (where he was picked at about 35%). I highly doubt that anyone picking Okami would have expected anything but a Okami style UD (not exactly what I would call pwning, but that is just me).

In actual fact, he was the biggest underdog in the Maia fight, which made sense considering he got worked.

All in all I don't get this fight because I consider Chael very one dimensional and a gatekeeper at best in the UFC. Nate shouldn't be fighting a guy like Chael. It's a great opportunity for Chael, but Nate not so much.

I also got Nate by whatever he wants

in my eyes Nate is a championship level fighter.while Chael is just another UFC fighter.

i guess thats hard to understand.but thats the way i see it.Chael is just not on or near Nates level.now thats not to say he could be in the future.but IMO that time isnt right now.

I like Chael. I think he could be better but sometimes he throws the game plan out the window. In his first fight with Filho, he was winning that fight standing but for sume reason he would take it down. He ended up getting submitted.

The same thing will happen when he fights Nate. To me, Nate is better in every aspect of the fight game. Chael lost 3 times to Horn, Nate submitted Horn. Nate KO'd Maia. I just think Nate is on a different level then Chael.

Chael has game, but he tends to do things in a fight that make you go, Huh." Nate is on a mission and Chael can't afford one slip up. Nate by submission, KO or TKO. It's gonna be Nates call

Marquardt will beat Sonnen impressively and then get his shot at the belt.
