The long-awaited return of WEC lightweight champ Jamie Varner (16-2 MMA, 4-0 WEC) is now official, and the Arizona Combat Sports product meets interim champ Benson Henderson (10-1 MMA, 3-0 WEC) at WEC 46.
The WEC today officially announced the lightweight unification bout as well as a featherweight contest between former champ Urijah Faber (22-3 MMA, 7-2 WEC) and top contender Raphael Assuncao (14-1 MMA, 2-0 WEC) at the recently rumored event.
WEC 46 takes place Jan. 10 at ARCO Arena in Sacramento, Calif.
Why they're doing this in Sacramento when the two fighters on the main card are from Arizona I will never know. WEC.....

I heard that the fight was going to be in AZ too, wonder what fell through....I really believe that when that market gets tapped the fans will not disappoint!
i don't see varner winning unless he gets hurt again i guess wec is right a event every month but man are they signing some good prospects they should do a tuf type show

Arizona will be a great place for mma, but the shame of those open-hand rules they had down there still must scare promoters away from dealing with the AZ AC.

Looks like a pretty sweet card. I love that Benson Henderson is ready to go again. I was worried that he would be too beat up to train for another title fight in that amount of time.
