After suffering his second loss in a row and his third defeat in the last four outings, Josh "The Dentist" Neer has been released from the UFC, ending his third tour of duty inside the Octagon. It's not exactly a surprise to anyone who saw his scrap with Gleison Tibau at UFC 104 last weekend. In a fight that never was pay-per-view quality to begin with, Neer spent three rounds getting slammed on his back and embarrassing the entire state of Iowa with his poor takedown defense before losing via unanimous decision. At UFC 101 in August he suffered a similar fate against Kurt Pellegrino, who also outwrestled Neer en route to a plodding decision.

This guy has a lot of skills, great stand up and cardio and all, but put him on his back for 3 rounds and you beat him regardless of the damage you do. Get a few impressive KO's in strikeforce as i know you can dentist, and you'll be back.

Cant say I'm shocked, Neer suffers from the same problem the Diaz brothers do as well but his problem is even worse. He seams to have very poor TDD and anytime he faces a good wrestler his chance are slim. He knows his problem but just like the Diaz brothers doesn't seam to do anything about it. Neer could be really good if he focused just on wrestling for a year.

That's kind of too bad. Neer is a good fighter. He'll bring it every time. Like it or not, though.. wrestling is part of the game.

It's too bad, I liked Neer, which ended up costing me a lot of points on the playground (because I picked him and he kept losing).
He has the skills, but he either doesn't look like he takes the fight seriously or he doesn't come in with a game plan.

Yeah, it's kind of a weird thought but these guys might have too much confidence in their jiu jitsu. Each of them have very solid ground games so they think getting taken down isn't a big deal. Clearly this attitude can work against you.
Neer's a tough guy with surprisingly good standup and BJJ, but he doesn't really go in with a gameplan or a lot of motivation to win. If he got hungry and focused I think he'd do very well.

I really like Neer also. Hopefully he works on his take down defense. I know he lost to Nate but I'd like to see him go at it with Nick. I think that would be a war!

What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in the playground is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no props, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Nick Diaz VS "the Dentist" I say give neer like 2 gimme fights and then give him a tiltle shot at diaz. That would probably be the fight of the year. 4th rd tko diaz

They already fought and diaz destroyed him on the feet , with ground and pound , and tapped him with a kimura . Diaz has made major improvements , while neer is almost the same fighter . pointless matchup imo .

I think that wrestling is scored to highly but Neer doesn't seem to think it matters at all. Get this guy in a wrestling school and work nothing else until he can at least keep it on the feet when he wants to.

I realy like Josh as a fighter. Dude is tough as nails and has no quit in him. But he hasnt evolved with the game. His wrestling is bad and he needs to focus on that in order to further his career. Hes only 26 and has a ton of expierience. I hope he can improve and go for a 4th tour of duty in the UFC??? Maybe to WEC for him???
