I understand why people on either side of the debate are frustrated. I mean, even Hitler is pissed about the Shogun/Machida fight.
Damnit Hitler... Why must you always speak the truth...

After listening to other opinions on the fight, and watching the fight again without any sound. I thought Machida won rounds 1 and 3 and Shogun won 2 and maybe 5 with the 4th round being a toss up. So it was a lot closer than I previously thought, but still I don't agree with the scoring system mma has adopted.
i thought shogun without question won rounds 4 and 5 the others were closer but shogun did more in round 1 . rounds 2 and 3 were very close. the problem with the outrage shown over the decision is that noone was ever dominate and noone was in danger of being knocked out. i enjoyed the fight because i like both fighters and the strategy but it wasnt really action packed.
Yeah, I enjoyed the technical aspect of the fight, I just think the ten point must system needs to be changed or thrown out.

It's glad to see a group of heavily vetted experts that have spent years doing nothing but scoring MMA bouts weighing in on this controversy in favor of Shogun. Oh, wait: None of you are professional fight scorers, are you? People need to get over the fact that the less exciting fighter won. It happens in a sport that rewards a sound strategy. Watch the fight on mute, when Goldberg and Rogan aren't "Blowing their wad" every time Shogun throws a punch, and it isn't hard to see that Machida won the first three rounds. it was close, yes. And yes, Machida looked worse at the end. But GSP looked like hell the first time he beat B.J. Penn, and it wasn't because B.J. was better or he got robbed. In the Machida/Shogun rematch, I predict that Machida knocks Shogun out in the 2nd round.

How do you see it, by attacking or by counter striking?
It’s is possible but I can’t see Machida attacking Shogun and being successful, he will rather get hit hard like in the first fight at the end of the exchange in round 3. It is also very unlikely he will finish the fight on the ground, Shougn is too talented imo. Well it was the first time Machida had a top fighter against him and the hype is gone at last.

I say Shogun ultimately won this fight. Right now I think he may be the best Light heavy.
But that's just my 2 cents.

This is what Shogun said;
'I was not aggressive enough? You just have to look at my face and his face after the fight,” Rua said. “He didn’t kick me one single time. I just got some knee butts. He has a broken rib, a deep cut in his mouth and could not even walk after the fight.'
Thats all there is to it. Do the same next time Shogun. Don't dive in. They wouldn't dare robb you twice!

"Mr. Madison, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul. "

shogun won the fight any way you look at it. there is 0 reasons to think that machida won there first fight. shogun will win there second fight as well because machida is not a game planner like everyone thinks. in every fight he has enployed the same plan, that being to back away and avoid damage until there is an opening for damage to be inflicted. shogun will press again and and machida will run and get hurt, or machida will come forward in a change of plan and get ktfo. machida is a great fighter but i think he will be out done in this fight.

I would first like to say that you are wrong by saying that Machida is not a game planner, stat wise, Machita lost the first round of his MMA life against Shogun. So even though Rua presents problems that Machita has never seen, to refer to Machita as "not a game planner" refers to either your preference to Rua, you distaste for Machita, or your failure to see previous Machita fights.
I consider Machita to be; what my former Marine buddies to be a "wet-blanket" he pretty much smothers his opponent with his own technique. But, to give you credit, he, Lyoto, didn't seem able to smother Rua.
I am not sure if Rua won the last fight, but from what I saw, I don't think that the decision should have been so one sided.
First post, but long time reader. I just try to call it how I see it.

I don't see why everyone is continually re-hashing the first fight over and over again. I can't even count how many threads, and articles I've read about this right from when the fight finished, all the way up until now.
I thought Shogun won myself, but oh well, bad calls happen, and I can admit it was a pretty close fight for the most part.
None of it matters now though. Tomorrow we get this EPIC rematch and the whole thing can be put to rest, unless, god forbid, there is a second decision like the last one. Then I think we'll see angry mobs demolishing Montreal.
