The Hurt Locker

I kept meaning to see this one while it was in theaters, but never got around to it.

I have several friends that go on and on about how good this was...I've been meaning to see it for a while, but just haven't got around to it.

Some war movies I enjoyed, that haven't been mentioned yet:

Das Boot (1981)
Paradise Road (1997)
Courage Under Fire (1996)
Stalingrad (1993)
A Midnight Clear 1992

Man, some of these trailers are cheesy...

I know it's not a movie but I personally think that the HBO Series "Band of Brothers" is just about as good as it gets!

It was requested and now it is materialized. A Top war movies thread. I made it top 7, but if you want to list more, go ahead.

Here are my tops in no particular order

Platoon
Apocalypse Now
Buffalo Soldiers
Full Metal Jacket
Saving Private Ryan
The Grey Zone
Black Hawk Down

Interested in Three Kings, but haven't seen it.

Now, I have excluded movies about the holocaust, ancient wars (like the Trojan war), sci fi, ones that are more political than warfare, etc.

Ive watched Three Kings a couple of times, I enjoyed it. Saving Private Ryan's opening beach scene is one of the greatest

You need to go back a few years for this one, but a really good flick is "A Bridge Too Far"

Take a look at this cast and tell me the last time you saw a war movie with this many award winning actors... (cover)

Did anyone watch HBO's Generation Kill
It was a mini-series like Band of Brothers that was very entertaining.

The Deer Hunter - Revolves around war

Props to you sir. Deer Hunter is a very intriguing look at the horrors of war and the life after. One of DeNiros best roles by far. Pretty sure he won an oscar for it.

EDIT: My favorite new war movie is Running Scared with Christian Bale. More of a cerebral movie that action though.
