Former light heavyweight champions Tito Ortiz and Forrest Griffin will meet in the co-main event at UFC 106 “Lesnar vs. Carwin” on Nov. 21 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. Yahoo! Sports was first to report the rematch on Thursday.

Ortiz won a controversial split decision over Griffin the first time the two met at UFC 59 in April 2006.

The 34-year-old Ortiz, who underwent back surgery a year ago, has not competed since he dropped a unanimous decision to reigning light heavyweight king Lyoto Machida at UFC 84 in May 2008. Though he was dominated for much of the match, he nearly submitted the unbeaten Brazilian with a third-round triangle choke, reminding his detractors that he remains a viable threat at 205 pounds.

Once the poster boy of the UFC, Ortiz has not won a fight since he stopped UFC hall of famer Ken Shamrock on strikes nearly three years ago. Still, the flamboyant Californian counts victories against Brazilian legend Wanderlei Silva, one-time International Fight League champion Vladimir Matyushenko and former UFC titleholders Vitor Belfort and Evan Tanner among his 15 career wins. Five of Ortiz’s six career defeats have come to current or former UFC champions.

After back-to-back wins over Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, Griffin ran aground. He relinquished the UFC light heavyweight crown to Rashad Evans in December and suffered an embarrassing knockout loss to middleweight titleholder Anderson Silva at UFC 101 two months ago. Based out of Xtreme Couture Mixed Martial Arts in Las Vegas, the 30-year-old Griffin had never before lost back-to-back bouts.

I am lovin this card even more now. This fight should be great. Me thinks Forrest takes this in a decision. With the addition of this fight the UFC will be able to market this card much better to the mainstream media. I for one thought the card was looking good without the addition.

Man I was pulling for Ortiz vs Couture 2 at 105 and then could have had forrest face vera at 106.

But I guess this is a good replacement. But Im thinking ortiz again by UD unless he decides to stand and trade. Either way it goes to the judges.

I like this fight, but not right now. I'm not sure Forrest has mentally healed from his last fight yet.

This is so dumb. Im charging the UFC with attempted murder on Forrest's career. This IMO is the last fight he needs coming off two straight KO losses, and especially after the last one was absolutely pitiful. I mean I love the rematch but just not right now. Terrible timing for Forrest. I got Ortiz taking this one.

Griffin all the way. The last fight was a robbery and Forrest has improved since then. No way ortiz takes this fight. I will bet my left testicle on it.

I'd go the other way on this one....Tito's comin off a long lay-off and surgery. He took a questionable decision over Griffin a while back. Griffin's been banging it out with the UFC's best the last 3 years.....He's improved a ton...I think Tito could be in for a long night....

Tito definitely takes this. I thought he won the 1st fight anyways and Forrest is mentally broken and will not have the proper time to train. Tito by decison and Forest decending closer to the bottom of the top 10.

Sounds like we have an early candidate for Hot Bout

i knew the second the Anderson fight was announced that forest would get destroyed and was scratching my head as to why the UFC set the fight up and destroy there poster boy in the first place

so the Anderson result dose not sway me the slightest

the first fight with Tito was close but Tito deservedly won the fight here are the stats

link

the rampage fight was also close and forest hardly deserved that win ether

Im going with Forrest. A work horse like him is not a good comeback fight after such a long lay off for Ortiz. If Forrest is mentally ready hes got a good shot at avenging his loss.
