MMA Survival is the first to report that the UFC have informed four veterans of their releases. The most noteworthy name is that of longtime octagon resident, Hermes Franca. In addition to Franca, Chris Wilson, Marcus Aurelio, and Justin McCully were released.

I didn't want to post this in the news section because I don't know how reliable of a source mmasurvival is. If it is true then it can be moved.

While I can understand the move in every case, Im sad to see Franca go. Hopefully he gets busy and fights more often trying to get back to the UFC.

Franca is the one I hate to see go also, but he did it to himself, I think he made the same mistake that Jorge Gurgel did and that being he insisted on standing in front of guys making it a kickboxing bout instead of going to the ground where he had the best chance to win most of his fights.

It's sad to me to see good fighters do this to themselves. Hopefully he can drop that bad habit outside of the ufc and we can see him back in the octagon someday.

I wouldnt mind seeing him back in the wec either, he would more than likely be a title contender in that org.

Sucks for Aurelio brought back on short notice, takes a loss and then gets cut. But its a business.

I would normally agree with this for most fighters, but Franca has always held his own with striking...this time around, he just appeared to be out of shape. Not to mention, Tyson would've been able to keep it standing.

I agree with Aurelio as he seems to be unable to put the wins together in the UFC to keep him, McCully should have been kept as he's one of only a couple of fighters that I think Kimbo may be able to beat, and if they wanna take a chance with Kimbo this would make sens. Chris Wilson I can see why but Hermes im undecided on. I know he didnt make weight for Tyson and the positive test from a couple years ago is still in people's minds but he did take the Tyson fight on short notice which means he wasnt able to be in the shape or train the way hed like to have. Id give him one more fight against someone like Gray or Edgar before they show him the door but then again I am not Dana and the Ferrtita's.

I wish that some of these LW's the UFC have been letting go would end up in the WEC. That would definitely spice up the WEC's shallowest division.

None of the dismissals surprise me. I really liked Franca, but ever since the steroids incident he has basically gone down hill in my books. From the roids (which I cut him a little slack), and the lacklustre performances in the octagon he pretty much lost most/all of what I liked in him.

not suprised to see aurelio and mccully go

but franca, i guess we will never see that joe lauzon vs franca match now

i always liked franca's fights, but i do think missing weight did hurt him

weird not seeing drew mcfedries not cut,

i hope some sign with strikeforce,

I've been waiting a long time to see McCully go. Glad it finally happened. It's too bad about Franca though he always made it a fight.

Franca would fit into the WEC perfectly. If Varner comes back and beats the winner of Cowboy vs Henderson they're not going to have anyone to line him up against. Since he dominated and then got caught by Franca when they fought the first time it could be a very interesting rematch.
