“It didn’t go quite as I hoped. Let’s put it that way,” Henderson told Sherdog.com Wednesday. “It could have been a lot better. Obviously I feel my value has gone up enough to warrant what I’ve asked for. I don’t think I’m being greedy by any means. There’s a lot of numbers being thrown around out there and I feel I should be paid what I ask for. They feel like, I guess, I’m not worth that though.”
“Yeah, I’m not real thrilled about that. And I like Vitor. He’s a good guy and he’s been around for a long time, but I just don’t understand why he gets to jump to the front of the line, especially when I beat him.” Henderson said he brought up his 2006 unanimous decision victory over Belfort at Pride 32 in Las Vegas at last week’s meeting, but he was met with puzzled faces. “I think it’s something that might have slipped their minds, that (that fight) happened,” said Henderson. “I’m not exactly sure. You’ll have to ask them on that, but to me, that’s what it seemed like.”
“Basically anywhere’s a possibility...Since I’ve had a history with Japan, I guess that would be one place I’d talk to. Strikeforce, for sure, would be the next big U.S. promotion.”

So it kinda sounds like his days in the UFC are over. That's what I'm getting from this.

I still think we'll see Hendo staying in the UFC. I can't see the UFC brass letting one of their top guys jump ship to the competition.

So just more posturing in your opinion?

I think so. He's going to stand firm on his demands in hopes of the UFC increasing their offer.
If it's money that he really wants, I don't see him getting as much from Strikeforce as he would from the UFC.
I could be wrong, though. Shocking, eh?

I don't really blame him for doing what he's doing. In my circle of friends Hendo is a big draw. He's not getting any younger, and my guess is he was expecting a very good pay day on this contract. I think it would be a mistake on the UFC's part to let him go, but really he would lose as well because I'm sure he would not make as much somewhere else.

I'd actually be interested to find out what he's asking for. I'd like to know who's out of line in these negotiations.

I hope he signs with strikeforce . I dont see dan beating Machida or Anderson . UFC doesnt need another rich franklin , knocking off number one contenders . Gegard needs a legit 205 test . Would be amazing if that was a 5 rounder on the next strikeforce card!

My guess would be that Dan might need to come down a little, and the UFC might need to come up. I think compromise would be the key word in this particular situation. Both sides may have to budge a little bit here to make it work.

Yeah I think that's the main factor here. We have no real clue whats he is asking for. He could be asking for the kind of pay the huge draws make. I think Dan is a great fighter but he isn't a huge draw like some other guys are and cant really expect the same pay as some of the guys that have huge drawing power. Dan is really in a tough place because he cant beat the champs at MW or LHW. So he isn't the champ and cant beat the current champs and doesn't have huge drawing power.
Now on the other side the UFC could be trying to low ball him because of the reason I said above.

i think he has alot of great potential matchups elsewhere. 1. moussasi 2. shields 3. jacare 4. mayhem 5. king mo 6. lawler 7. mccdonald 8. leites 9. whitehead so even if he does leave i think he can still fight some pretty tough competition maybe even win a few belts that said hope he stays in the ufc

The UFC is losing alot of superstars. It may affect the growth of the organization. Very bad news if he leaves.

This is a great point as younger fighter's will naturally migrate to the org's that they see the best guys in. They want to be the best by figting the best, and if you sign the best you can / will beat even the mighty UFC.
