Former Pride superstar Wanderlei Silva is in early discussions to make his middleweight debut against decorated Judoka, Yoshihiro Akiyama at UFC 108 in Jan.

Even though the bout is far from official and is in the early stages of discussions, the possibility of the bout has peaked fans interest. If booked, the Silva vs. Akiyama bout has the potential to be an exciting back and forth battle as both men often bring an aggressive and crowd-pleasing style.

Whoah doesn't Wandy train with Xtreme Couture and Shawn Tompkins is just now taking sexyama under his wingWell who cares I guess. Badass match up which will make for a crazy ass fight! Also a great fight for Wandy to get a pretty good win under his belt at 185 and get a good start going. Glad's its not anybody to big, I want to see Wandy gain some momentum before he fights a guy like Hendo, Franklin, or Beltford again. Maybe Bisping/Khang winner or loser next. Love this fight tho, really hope it happens!

Wanderlei recently opened up his own gym in Las Vegas. I know he is still friends with Randy but him and Shawn Tompkins had a falling out.

I've been waiting for this fight to happen. As soon as Akiyama came to the UFC he said he wanted to fight Wanderlei. Should be a great fight on a great night. A. Silva vs. Belfort, T. Silva vs. Evans, and W. Silva vs. Akiyama is a pretty damn good line up of fights.

I want Wanderlei to get back in the winning column. He could be a force at MW but who knows.

Belcher rocked Akiyama a couple of times....if Wandy makes those connections it's not going to be something he can bounce back from!

Im going with gut and saying Wandy will make a comeback and beat Akiyama. Akiyama is a great fighter, but he didnt have the same explosiveness or takedown ability in the octagon that he has shown before. I think Belcher actually won that fight but its not importan now. Him and Wandy should be a good one. I think Akiyama will look more crisp, but I see Wandy landing some wild bombs.

Should be a good one..

This is a good fight. It could easily build up Akiyama if Wanderlei is heading out the door or it could give Wanderlei a win he needs to get back on track.

Yea, Akiyama has a lot of hype with him and the Belcher fight wasnt to impressive. This is a huge test for him and if he can win, UFC's foot is in the door of Japan
