The latest former NFL player to try his hand at MMA is former Dallas Cowboys great Herschel Walker, who has signed with Strikeforce. The 47-year-old, who likely will debut next year, is also a longtime martial artist and sixth-degree black belt in tae kwon do.

Yes, he who is older than even Randy. I can't root for him just because he's one of those former Cowboys.

LOL at Sideshow Force. How can anyone take SF seriously? The UFC fights 4 NFL guys in their prime who have had MMA fights wo really want to have a career in MMA. SF just takes anyone who will give them the time of day. Walker is to old to have a career in MMA. He hasnt had any MMA fights at any level and probably hasnt even been properly trained in legit arts for any amount of time. Walker should test himself at a small show verses noobs to see if this is what he wants to do and wether he is able to do it safely. This is a good way to get someone killed. Having someone who is old and not used to being punched come in and get hit by pro HW fighters. I guess thats what happens when you have 2 parties looking for a paycheck and not whats best for the sport.

Couldnt he have said he did it by fighting on a small show or Amateur show? There is no need to jump into the deep end and risk serious enjury. The real answer is he is just doing it for money. There is no money in small shows. Hes just looking for a pay day.

Yep...and Strikeforce is doing the exact same thing.

I don't blame him for wanting to make a buck off his name while he can. Its pretty sad of Strikeforce to take part in it though.
Hopefully he proves us all wrong, cause I'd hate to see him get seriously hurt in a fight that he should never of been given.

I already listed the possible thing wrong with it. Possible injury for Walker when he still has a lot of life left even if he is to old for athletics. For SF its the sports reputation. Now SF getting someone killed wont kill the sport. Although getting a celebrity killed will cause public out cry that could very well result in it. There is more ways to make a buck without going the Johnny Morton route.
SF was supposed to be trying to give the UFC a run for its money. They are supposed to be a serious top level fight promotion. This is not how you do that. People will not respect any of your fighters when some of them are walk ons who dont belong. Being a UFC fighter means something. Its a respected position by all other sports and fans. Its that way because you have to earn the right to fight there. The UFC told Kurt Angle to hit the road because he didnt take it serious and train. They didnt bring him in just because he was a name. SF loses all credibility with matches like this.

Amongst hardcore fans. But, the truth is...no one gives a **** about the hardcore fan. They're banking on making NEW fans. Fans that recognize Herschel Walker's name. Fans that are intrigued by the fact that a former NFL star is now fighting.
Strikeforce doesn't care about you, me or anyone posting on this messageboard. They're still building their brand and in order to do that, things like this are absolutely necessary. Chances are he'll fight once and that'll be it. Maybe, just maybe, they'll gain some fans from it. If so, mission accomplished. If not, oh well...it's not going to kill their business.

ding ding ding
let me add that hes not going to be getting in there with a top competitor by any means, and although hes long in the tooth, he has always been in fantastic shape and has trained different martial arts for decades. its not like its going to be screech vs horshack in there man, more like slater vs barbarino
