It would seem that in addition to teammates not wanting to fight each other in UFC, friends are the same way. And that, according to his manager, is why Luis Cane isn't excited about fighting Antonio Rogerio Nogueira at UFC 106. They said to the TATAME website that they asked Joe Silva to put Cane against any American fighter instead when they were offered "Minotoro" but were told they had to fight whoever was put in front of them-that meant, like it or not, Nogueira.

This annoys me, MMA is not the Olympics, its not country vs country. You can't say I'm not fighting any Brazilians in my career. What if American fighters started refusing to fight other Americans.

This is getting silly.

props to the ufc for not considering his request to fight an american. You let something like that slide for one guy and next thing you know everyone will want to pick their fights.

I agree with Cane's request. You guys are making it out like hes the first person to ever say no. Cane's literally a fight away from becoming a legit top 5 Lightheavyweight, how hard would it be to have him take on Thiago Silva, Forest Griffin on Keith Jardine, I think these would make more sense anyways, plus for Little Nog's debut, why not have him take on someone like Stephan Bonnar. Both Cane and Little Nog are new to the audience, fights with other top 10's could make them become big draws and gain new fans, I dont see anything good coming from the two fighting. In a situation like Swick, Koscheck and Fitch all being in or around the top 5 then yes they should fight but when its little Nog's first fight in UFC I dont like this one.

Haven't these guys ever heard the old saying "nothing personal, it's just business"? I know it's not the same, but I see this all the time in wrestling-and not just friends, but even brothers and sisters compete against each other! And of course friends and relatives compete against each other all the time in other sports-yes, they're not trying to beat each other's brains in but it doesn't stop them from doing it!

please put me against an american fighter?

How retarded would this sport be if no one who was friends ever fought? I can understand training partners to a degree, because it's difficult to work out training and cornermen for two guys from the same camp, but not wanting to fight someone because you like them? Come on man. That's going way too far. This is your job, you don't get to pick and choose who you fight. Annoying to see a fighter complaining about something like this IMO.

friends fight friends in this sport all of the time and dont complain. Now of course the guy is intitled to his opinion and preferences but when you make it public like this you come off sounding bad and you are going to catch sh*t for it. Remember that this sport is fighting and as a fan and probably most, I like to see the "anyone, anytime, anywhere" mentalitiy, not, gee wiz dana I like the guy and would hate to make big bank going out there and doing my job.

Obviously, thats why I said they signed the contract.

he signed it because he had to, not because of a warrior attitude and put the freindship aside for 15mins.

Im saying that there was no need to make this public because it flat out makes him vaulnerable to criticism.
