OKLAHOMA CITY – UFC lightweight Nate Diaz entered the main event of Wednesday's "UFC Fight Night 19: Diaz vs. Guillard" event surrounded by question marks.

Five minutes into the affair, Diaz had done little to silence the critics that had questioned his abilities following back-to-back losses to Joe Stevenson and Clay Guida.

But when opponent Melvin Guillard suddenly, inexplicably made a tragic mistake, Diaz was there to capitalize. Following the bout, the 24-year-old said he's ready for bigger and better things.

Don't think he's quite ready for a top three talent. Guillard has improved but is not top ten material. I'd say give Diaz a top ten talent. Wrestlers seem to give him problems

Once again the fight went as I th0ught it would. Melvin wasn't winning that second round though, he kept running from Daiz and finally moved in to clos eand daiz got him into the clintch and it was all over.

One thing we all need to rememebr is that Daiz isn't a good fighter till he has been punched in the face a couple times, he always starts the fights cold and as he warms up the more devestating he becomes. With that said I think that he needs to make a move at a top ten guy right now. I don't see him fighting Sherk, Guida, Florian, Edgar, Stephans, Penn or Sanchez, he will most liking face someone like Griffin, Pelligrino or Maybard and he'll have to prove he can hang with the wrestlers becasue 7 of the top ten in his division all have greazt grappling.

Melvin was awesome on the feet, his boxing/evading was steller and if he didnt over commit to that punch from his attempt to fool diaz , I think Guillard woulda won that fight for sure

He should get the winner of the Hermes/Tyson fight

Would work out either way because Tyson brings a ridiculous pace to the fight and Hermes already beat Nate, so it would be a good rematch now that Nate has more experience.

He isn't ready for a top-3 talent. Guida and Stevenson both beat Diaz, and they're both at the bottom of the top-10 ladder. Come on now.

i agree.

i think Nate is getting a little ahead of himself. 1-2 in his last 3 fights isnt something to get all bigheaded about.

maynard imo would be a difficult match up for Nate.

maynard is lightening fast and can keep the fight on its feet.

As has been said by the other members, Melvin was winning, but I think Diaz definetely figured out his timing by the second round, and the tides were definetely turning. Melvin tried to go back to the well one too many times, and it's inevitable that if you're just going to use the same technique over and over (ie the overhand right) you're going to start getting picked apart.

What I was really impressed by was Diaz's takedowns. His legs are so long, that he can score those trips with a high frequency, over a pretty talented wrestler--awesome stuff.

He's not ready for top three talent,, but I'd like to see him against another tough LW like George Sotiropoulus (yeah I probably butchered the last name).

Glad to see Nate back winning but as for fighting top 3 guys .....eh? I think he has a ton of potential and needs to work his striking a bit more. Melvin exploited his face a bit and put Diaz chance of winning in serious jeopardy. He needs a few more lower tier guys then move onto the top 10.

Yeah, Diaz needs a couple of fights before he breaks into the top ten for sure.....he has already had 2 shots at it and was unsuccessful (Stevenson and Guida), make him work for it and prove that he is worthy.

I am a diaz fan, but he lost to joe daddy and guida, he needs to get another win in order to fight florian or bj.
