Anyone got a good recipe for mixing their protein? I've found the joys of blending fruit to vanilla protein for a decent change of pace. I've also found that adding a scoop of oatmeal keeps me full for a damn long time.

But I've been doing nothing but experimenting at this point. Does anyone have a tried and true combination that's worth sharing?

I mix in the magic bullet mug

1/2 banana
1 scoop of whey powder (I use Iso whey)
2-3 tablespoons of flax oil
2-3 tablespoons of finely ground oatmeal
fill up with water.


The shake will recover you from the brink of exhaustion in about 20 min or so. The only downfall is that the blending aerates the shake making you feel a little bloated for a few hours. This will make you feel full and as soon as you get the air out of your stomach you are starving. Letting the bubbles out of the shake has the problem of the oatmeal settling at the bottom (yuck).

If you don't mind an increase in fat, then a little peanut butter does wonders. I could eat a peanut butter and banana shake everyday for the rest of my life.

Other than that, fresh fruit always worked fine for me.

Where can one purchase Flax oil? I've already finely ground the oatmeal, that seems to work well. And I actually just bought the magic bullet anout 3 weeks ago, that's when the experimenting started.

You should be able to find flax oil at GNC, or somewhere like that. Grocery store, or Target, Walgreens, places like that may carry it as well.

Not to start an argument here, but that's not the recipe his wife gave in The Art of Expressing the Human Body. I don't have it on hand, but I'll have a look and post it when I get a chance. It did have raw eggs, but there was not raw meat. . . anyway I'll post it when I have a chance.

Noninstant Powdered Milk
Water or Juice
Ice Cubes
2 Eggs-sometimes with shells
1 tablespoon wheat germ or wheat germ oil
1 tablespoon of peanut butter
Banana
1 tablespoon of Brewers yeast
Inositol
Lecithin (granular form)

His wife says he never did have a set recipe for his protein shake, but he drank some variation of this once or twice a day.

ok hear it is.

first i start off with 2 scoops of the Vanilla Weight Gainer from GNC.
then i add a good amount of milk.
then a whole banana goes in the mix (this is ina blender by the way)
then i get the honey out and put about a 2 tablespoons
next i get 2 scoops of creamy peanut butter and throw it in.
some flaxseed oil comes next.i just get 2 gel capsules and bust them into the blend.

than i put the lid on and turn on the blender at its highest setting for about 30 seconds.

the result is a delicious Banana Flavored shake with a hint of peanutbutter.

BY FAR the best shake ive ever made

yea i was just giving a general amusing addition to the thread, i saw the one from the book online. i was just going from what i remembered from the history channel special . it said he did use raw meat occasionally. i would not advise trying either recipe

Sorry for the late reply. I got mine in the health food/organic section of my grocery store. It needs to be refrigerated and mine came in a blue bottle.

well to be honest i have no idea.about the nutritional values.


i CAN tell you however that its LOADED with calories because of the weight gainer. something like 1300 calories a serving or something like that.it also has like 50 grams of protein.not to mention the potassium you get from the banana.also the protein from the peanut butter.(every little bit counts).also the peanut butter and milk give it a little fat.but it makes it taste better so i dont care.honey is a natural antioxidant and it just is part of my recipe

after training I usually have this.

2 bananas
few scoops of vanilla protein powder
little bit of coco powder, no sugar in it
peanut butter
watermelon/blueberries some sort of sweet fruit that isnt too strong in flavor for sweetness.

then fill with milk until i blend it.

freeze the fruit, or dont and add a few ice cubes.

I typically do 2 scoops whey protein, 5 frozen strawberries, 1 banana, and a tablespoon of peanut butter. Works great and feels like you're full. I recently tried something that really adds to the workout routine and gives you a little boost on recovery time. It's called MMA Fighter's Fuel. Best part is that it's a pill instead of a shake!
