With the premier of The Ultimate Fighter 10 season coming this week, all eyes have been on Kimbo Slice. The internet sensation turned mixed martial artist will try his luck in the UFC reality series after a notorious stint with EliteXC.

Intersting article.

Just a note to Bas, I will be living in the SF bay area on less than 5000 per 6 weeks.

Supporting a wife and 2 kids, though?

It must depend on the kinda lifestyle you lead I guess.

I think I could quite happily support my family on £500 per week - that's a solid income over here - about £35k per year.

Oh, it's definitely possible in most parts of the US, but cost of living increases significantly the closer you get to the coastline.

For example, houses that sell for $100,000 here in Indiana (US) may sell for $250,000+ in California, depending on where you're at.*

* Rough estimate.

My wife and I have one child. We will have a dual income (same amount), but that means she can't stay at home and we need daycare, which is like having a second rent. If my wife didn't work and we didn't have to pay for child care, we could certainly do it, all the while living in a decent place too.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying he is lying, but it is doable. As moob said, it depends on the lifestyle. In Toronto, my wife and I were having no problems raising our son on a family income of 34k (that is about 1400 a month each) all the while living a decent life. It's not a life I wish to live forever, but we never had to worry about paying bills or buying food or the quality of our food/living conditions. This is why I don't understand how people making six figures could be struggling in life, other than the fact that they are really poor at managing money.

Anyhow, I didn't want to digress so I will say that the article definitely says a lot about both Kimbo and Bas. I am leaning on the side of Bas right now.
