The UFC is on a roll lately with signings. They've gobbled up fighters from Phil Baroni to Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, ostensibly so they can fill a large amount of cards in 2010. The problem with running 16 major shows a year though isn't the undercards. Sure, it's nice to have stacked cards, but on television and PPV, the vast majority of people buy or watch based on the marquee fight. And come 2010, with at least 16 major shows a year if they get this network deal done, it is going to be a challenge to find appropriate main events.

Although the WEC's two biggest stars have lost the strap, I still see folding the lighter weight classes into the UFC as a way of creating more legitimate headliners. The biggest decrease in viewers right now is when there isn't a title fight on the card, regardless of who is fighting. By putting a featherweight or bantamweight title on the line along with some standout fighters on the main card could really give some of the shows the boost in credibility that they are currently lacking.

i think they should just leave wec alone
but as long as the cards aren't stacked while others suck and no 8 to 10 month between title fights they should be able to have main events
5 champs x 3 defenses is 15 main events
they will have no problem if they plan ahead of time joe silva!!

Yeah but they have their big shows like super Saturday night the big summer show and end of year show and they tend to have 2 title fights on those shows

And also it isnt normal for a UFC champ to defend their title 3 times a year.
Look at Penn and Silva.

They dont have to fold the WEC to add the biggest WEC fights to a UFC PPV. If its UFC worthy like Aldo vs Brown vs Faber etc. Then add it to the UFC card and that will only go to further promote the WEC brand. The WEC gives them a second entity to grab tv deals without being effected by the limitations SPIKE tv has with the UFC. WEC allows Zuffa to go after different demogrphics than they do with the UFC. WEC is marketed to hispanics and recently towards asians. This is something they cant do with the UFC and keep its mainstream appeal. But later they can funnel these demos into the UFC.

I really dont like, and like the WEC at the same time.
Pros-
They are on Sundays
Free on TV
have great up and comers
Always action packed events and Great Main events

Cons-
They are on Sundays (Yes its a pro and a con, for the hardcore fans, its great, for the newbies that watch at the bar with friends, aint so great, and thats the UFCs biggest market believe it or not, The 18 to 35 UFC fans, not the MMA fans)
They are only lighter divisions (155, 145, 135)
The undercards a riddled (not sure the right "riddled) with old ufc fighters, and buncha nobodys, which can sometimes be exciting, but it gets old watching Jens Pulver get KOd every WEC undercard

If they disolve the WEC into the UFC, would be great. You would have 8 instead of 5 UFC champs, and would never have a problem with the cards.

But at the same time it would be too much. Numbered UFC events ussually have 10-12 fights. and with 8 weight classes, there would be too many fighters and not enough events. You would have 1 fight in each class, and only have 3 superfights left over. The Champs would only get to defend there belt ever 6-7 UFCs, and the contenders and up and comers wont have a spot.

Watever the UFC does Im down, but think of it like this, and depending on the answer you can sorta find out what the UFC will do.

Which option will get Dana & The UFC More money, more fans, and less empty seats.
