“I like big fights like that. It would be my pleasure, but if they gave me a title shot, it would be awesome. I have more experience than (Lesnar). That’s a big advantage I have. A lot of jiu-jitsu and good standing up, make him tired man, move around, move around. When I get his timing, hit him with a good right hand and box him, box him and get him tired. I’ve been in there a long time. I can see what’s going on. If he goes on the top into my guard, I can play with him. Let’s see, let’s see what is going to happen.”

UFC heavyweight contender Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira breaks down a possible future bout against current champion Brock Lesnar. “Minotauro” reinserted himself into the title picture with a thrilling three round victory over Randy Couture at UFC 102 on August 29 in Portland. That victory helped erase the memories of a “half-dead” Nogueira getting trounced by a suddenly pugilistic Frank Mir back at UFC 92. Does a reborn Big Nog still have the ability to finish off the major players in his division? Or will bruising behemoths like Shane Carwin and Brock Lesnar turn him into Brazilian confetti?

I personally don't really like the style match up for Nog in this one. The fact that Lesnar was able to lay on Mir the way he did doesn't bode well for Nog. Lesnar's BJJ defense seems to consist of holding on with brute strength and throwing tiny GnP fists. Unfortunately for his opponents, "tiny GnP fists" from Brock Lesnar means huge hamhocks onto your dome.

Lesnar is just too massive and too strong for a lot of people to deal with. It's going to take someone who can come close to matching his strength but is superior in technique. I feel like nearly every other UFC HW out there is more skilled technique wise, but there's maybe 2 or 3 that could come close to matching his strength.

I was pretty impressed with Nog in the last fight. He has been looking really slow lately, not only in the Mir fight where Staph is a reasonable explanation, but in the Herring and Sylvia fights as well.

He looked considerably more crisp, accurate, and quick in this last fight, like the Nog I remember from PRIDE. Granted Randy really didn't seem to implement the best gameplan (surprisingly) but I was still impressed by the difference I saw.

With that being said I have to agree with jackelope. The combination of size and top level wrestling is going to be incredibly hard for anyone, especially a BJJ specialist, to deal with. We know that Nog can deal with the size alone, but add his ability to close space so effectively to that size and it looks like a pretty rough and possibly short night for Nog.

Nog impressed me as well. I really thought Randy was going to clinch and dirty box his way to a UD.

As for Brock, my concern for Nog would be that he allows himself to take too much punishment on the feet and I don't see too many shots from Brock being needed to cause some serious damage.

The other thing to not forget is Nog didn't finish Randy almost got TKO'd by Herring and lost to Mir (Injured/recovering or not) and Brock pretty much walked through the ot of them. While it would be an intriguing fight, Nog would struggle at best. Plus as Mike Goldberg commented once before 'Every day leading up to the fight is a bad day for ********* (Whoever he is fighting)' as he is an exceptionally fast learner and just gets better everyday. If he comes through the Carwain fight we will see, but I would suggest Nog would be unlikely to beat Brock.

I wonder where the "Nog needs to retire" choir disappeared to?

I would be scared for Nog the whole time, but I think you guys are underestimating his ability to control his opponent in his guard, and overestimating Brock's ability to stay out of a sub.

I agree We have not seen Brock with a BJJ guy like Nog. OK Mir is real good but I think Nog is another level. Not saying Brock wouldn't win but also not giving him the win either.

They changed their tune. Now they are singing "Randy needs to retire."

I agree......I think that Nog has a much better chance to beat Lesnar than Randy would have.......That was the only reason i wasn't dissapointed when Randy lost to Nog.....

I don't really see how this is a knock on the fans. It is now abundantly clear that something WAS wrong with Noguiera when he fought Mir. That being said, of course the fans were worried for Nog's health. Since something was wrong, they were plenty justified in their concern for his health. (Redundant for clarification purposes)

Now that he's shown he's still in shape and ready to go, of course they'll back off. Any doctor would react basically the same way, except he would more than likely still be erring on the side of caution in regards to Nog's health considering that no matter what anybody might say, fighting MMA is not conducive to long term health outside of staying in shape.
