PORTLAND, Ore. - UFC president Dana White is rethinking matching middleweight champion Anderson Silva against welterweight title-holder Georges St. Pierre in light of Silva's recent demolition of Forrest Griffin.
"I think he's too big for Georges," White said of Silva. "Forrest Griffin is huge and at the (UFC 101) weigh-ins, when we squared them off, he was as big as Forrest at 205 (pounds). The guy is unbelievable."

Dana should make this Anderson's last fight since im sure Dana doesnt want to have him leave the UFC undefeated and I know GSP would beat Anderson.

I dont think Dana TRUELY ever wanted GSP vs Silva.
Both have plenty of fights against others that'd be just as if not MORE interesting.

Wow dude...there is no way GSP gets by Anderson...The way he beat up Forrest at 205...fighting GSP would be ridiculous...He would be way stronger and have a great reach on him...I used to want to see this fight because I wanted to see GSP get an ass wooping but now I"m more interested in seeing him at LHW or even HW if that rumor is true.

Everyone talking about Forrest needs to check themselves, Forrest was an overrated fighter coming into that fight. He's good at everything, but great at nothing. GSP is a whole different type of animal and could very well beat Anderson, but I'd have to agree with Dana, most likely Anderson is too big for GSP.

This makes sense, but I am looking at it from a slightly different perspective.
Silva has interests in going up in weight categories, not staying at MW. A fight at MW would be the only option for a GSP vs. Silva superfight. That fight will only "ruin" one of their legacies. However, if Anderson moves up and eventually retires, followed by GSP moving up, that presents a situation where both fighters can develop similar legacies, which both can be marketed, rather than killing off one option in a single match.

With it seeming more likely that Anderson will remain in LHW for most of ,if not all of his remaining fights (3 I think)...the idea of GSP moving up in weight permanently to MW seems pretty reasonable...especially considering he is still pretty young...after the Kampman/Swick winner who would be the next contender? The well is running as dry at welterweight for GSP as it is in MW for Anderson...unless they bring in a bunch more guys I don't see why GSP could bulk up and make the move after Anderson retires or Vacates the belt...it would certainly make for alot of interesting matchups at middleweight.

Silva maybe. Pierre pretty much has wiped out his division. If you dont count his losses to Hughes and Serra, he has beat all the past and current names.
Kampmann and Swick may be contenders but they havnt been matched against a Fitch or Alves. I think they havnt either because Fitch/ Alves would win and they dont want them getting rematches that quick.
Silva has tons of options though. LHW is stacked, Lower weight HWs, MW challengers.

Question for anyone. Is Pierre and Silva's reach relatively the same? I know Pierre may be shorter but he has very long arms for his body

Not sure on the reach but even if they were the same it wouldn't help much because GSP is only about 5'10" while A. Silva is 6'2" making it a 4" difference, that is enough to make GSP have to fire his punches upwards....not good.
Understand also GSP would be a small MW in general, most of them are 6' at least, but if he went the route of A. Silva it would be outstanding. Silva has the frame to be a LHW, GSP doesn't really have the frame for MW but he could do it because of his skills / talent IMO.
Plus Rush has a good point in the whole legacy thing.

I don't see a point of him fighting at Middleweight anymore, unless it's Hendo. But both of them should be in LHW.
