SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Gilbert Melendez has been waiting almost two years to avenge his December 2007 loss to Mitsuhiro Ishida, and he finally got to do so on Saturday night. "El Nino" defeated Ishida via third-round TKO, and in the process retained his Strikeforce interim lightweight title.

i was impressed by Melendez, the way he was came out in the first round reminded me of Gomi's sprawl and brawl stance

Melendez looks pretty solid in that fight.......I think he takes his next fight with Thompson.....

Melendez really impressed me also. He just totally dominated Ishida through that whole fight. I would mind seeing Melendez in the UFC at some point. But, he's still got unfinished business with Thompson first.
