Evidently you can't just have a growth spurt as a kid, even as an adult you can have them-they just call it a "man spurt". UFC Welterweight Tamdan McCrory evidently had one recently and he's at that point in life where he's having one, and thus he is considering a move up to Middleweight. And even possibly Light Heavyweight at some point, but he plans to stay at Welterweight as long as possible.

He probably wouldn't look so skinny at 185, but he's doing okay for himself at 170. We'll see how he fares against Doomsday.

Maybe this should be in the Padded Room.

His term, not mine. Now that I think about it, I'd have called it a Hong-Man Choi.

Not too surprising since he's only 22. I remember when I had just turned 21, there was a week when I gained over 15 lbs out of nowhere. You just seem to start getting the man-build in your earlier 20's--broader shoulders and such.

First few times I saw McCrory I was super duper impressed with his amazing footwork and his crisp powerful striking. Something looked "oddly familiar" about his style....I couldn't put my finger on it until I realized where he teaches and trains.
McCrory's home base is actually right down the road from me. The arts taught in CNY MMA are the Arts I am involved with...especially the FMA (Filipino Martial Arts)....one of the teachers there has even worked with my Sifu. My Sifu and the FMA Sifu at CNY MMA have even worked with Erik Paulson together. No wonder his style seemed familiar and I was impressed with his ability. McCrory has some great teachers around him. Jeet Kune Do and FMA...these two arts and the concepts associated with them are sadly lacking in MMA. It is refreshing to me to see someone skilled in these (and different un orthodox) styles make it in the big leagues.
It is funny when Joe Rogan freaks when he sees an "uppercut" elbow (I have only seen a handful of uppercut elbows in 15 years of watching MMA) ....I have been throwing uppercut elbows for years...thanks to the FMA.
I would love to get down to CNY MMA and train some with the Barncat some day.
I do think Tamdan needs to pack on some serious muscle before he goes up any weight divisions. I think he can do it though. He has a great and varied crew of Martial Artists around him. Good luck Barncat!!!!!
