Yesterday, our own Mike Fagan posted an article reporting that the Nevada State Athletic Commission will decide on some new rules for MMA on August 17th. One of the rule changes set to be voted on by the NSAC is to increase rounds within "special events" to five rounds at the discretion of the NSAC. This will most likely be in response to a request from the promotion. The criteria for which a bout falls under the "special" criteria has yet to be mentioned by the NSAC.

Unless it's a title fight I'm strongly against this.

if its used for anything other than title fights surely it'll slow the pace most fighters use in 3 round fights and will make them less exciteing.

I couldn't be more for this. Everytime there's a close decision, especially a split decision, people are always complaining how they got robbed blah blah blah. If fights become 5 rounds there will be less decisions and more finishes, as well as each round meaning less. Its the best current solution to the judging problem.

You're not giving the world's elite MMA fighters much credit.

I think it would be good for main events that are not title fights. That way you still get something a little special even when the event you have bought tickets for does not have any title fights.

I like the idea of the odd extra 5 rounder. Especially for the Coture - Nog fight.
I am just worried that we would see it too often.

well there are some sure pros and cons to this
the 5 rounds for non title fights should be decided as the fight goes... for instance-henderson/franklin at the end of three rounds is where they should decide they should be able to ask both corners would you like to continue if both say yes then another round resumes if one says yes and the other says no then well he just gave up so he loses and we have a decisive winner and if both say no then well we'll go to the judges
and I agress telling some of the more exciting fighters that this is a 25 minute bout may slow their pass, I agree with who said that
in the end just leave it as its been

As long as its not a ton of fights then maybe but there are alot i wish would have been. Liddell vs Wandy is the first that comes to mind.
