Carwin will destroy Velazquez, I'm a fan of both but Carwin and Cane are basically clones of each other but with Carwin getting the size, strength and power. Its a shame to put them up against each other so early.

I'm pulling for my boy Cain on this one. Since I saw his 1st fight in Montreal i predicted he'd be champ in the next 2 years.

I think its possible people are taking Cain lighlty here. I would expect him to out wrestle Lesnar, and Carwin is the same physical specimen as Lesnar, so why wouldn't I expect him to be able to outwrestle Carwin as well. Cain by UD. Who is the better striker? Congo or Carwin? Well he just took him to the mat and kept him their for most of 3 rounds. I think Carwin is a good wrestler, but not in Cains league. Cain is also a lot younger. So it's close to a pickem in my book, but I will go with top control FTW.

If this is merged with the other thread on this I am cool with it. I just had a sort of seperate point.
The matchup itself makes perfect sense, but the timing is asisnine.
When Velasquez and Carwin fight in late october they wont be ready to fight again till Febuary. So then you have Big Nog/Randy getting the title shot. Which is nonsensical, cause they are both coming off losses, so why if the respective winner gets the title shot is if fair?
Cain and Shane are both undefeated and the winner of that would make sense for the next title shot. Shane fought in March and Cain in June, why not have them fight in early Sept, so you can have a year ending title fight, or January fight?
Do any of you see this as crazy or think what they are doing makes sense?
The right people are fighting, but the order is ****** up. Totally.

Im going with Carwin via a close deciosn but I totally agree with your reasoning. And I would not be surprised one bit to see Cain win this, and he could win it via a finish. MMA fights are not won or lost on muscles bad ass looks. They are won on technigue, especially at the highest level.
This fight is very tough to call, but either guy has a terrific chance of winning and look at Carwin's last two fights, his striking defense leaves a lot to be desired, and looking at the two, Cain has much better movement and scrambling ability. The same way Fedor wins with speed among other things, Cain does too.

Generally speaking two wrestlers will end up striking. No doubt in my mind he would have no success attempting to take Brock Lesnar down but Im not as sure about Carwin.
IMO the keys to winning are about as clear cut as it gets. Cain Velasquez needs to take Carwin down and Carwin needs to keep it standing. Im just not sure how easy its going to be to take Carwin down or how solid Cains chin really is?
I'm going to go with Carwin by KO. I have 2 questions about Cain and only one about shane so to me it makes for better logic.

cain might be the best freestyle wrestler in mma, thats saying a lot, and because of that i think getting the TD wont be a problem. a guy carwins size will not fight well off his back in most cases and that makes it hard for me to take carwin. cain should have the top control to take this fight as long as he gets through the first 30 seconds of each round for as long as it goes.

Carwin basically is Cain but 40 pounds heavier and way more powerful imo. He's too big and solid to be outwrestled (except maybe by lesnar), and Cain's not going to be able to fend off his big KO punches for three rounds. I think Cain is going to sleep.

Imo it'll come down to chins and Valesquez is way ahead of Carwin in that aspect, had Kongo hit Carwin with those bombs he'd be out cold. People are also not respecting Cains power, being able to GnP for 3 rounds straight shows you have great power yet you know how to use your energy.
If Cain hits Carwin once or twice with all his power Carwin is going down, Carwin probably has more punching power than Kongo but is not as fast as Kongo but he could very well put Cain out, I dont like Carwins striking defense at all, Cains defense has been good til he fought Kongo who had a reach over him, I think Carwin will have a slight reach over Cain.
EDIT: I have Cain by KO (GnP) or a UD ground clinic.

cain showed his weekness on his chin, this won't be a wrestling match, shane ground skills are far more superior than kongo, and his hands are deadly, probably most deadliest since arlovski
one punch is all it will take for cain to go to sleep, i think shane will come out guns blazing, and will catch him i love the matchup but i gotta go with shane

From Velasquez last fight, it seems like hes a strong wrestler, with a decent chin, or no?
Carwin is naturally a stronger, bigger guy,and also has a wrestling backround. If he works on his takedown defense and good footwork for this fight,Carwin by tko. I also think for this fight Carwin will be training from his back alot just incase he is put on the ground.
If Carwin gets a big hit on him, i think he has a WAY better chance of finishing the fight then Kongo did. Just my opinion.
I cant see Shane losing, if he does, it will open up my eyes for Velasquez.
