Tim Sylvia's shocking 10-second knockout loss to Ray Mercer on Saturday has proven to be more costly than originally thought. Affliction Entertainment vice president, Tom Atencio, informed FanHouse on Monday that Sylvia has now been taken off the upcoming "Affliction: Trilogy" card. "It's his second knockout in a row, and I don't want to take a chance on anything," Atencio said. "The fight is less than 60 days away."
Atencio added that no one from the California State Athletic Commission contacted him about taking Sylvia off the card, but he felt it was in Sylvia's best interest to take some time off to heal.

second ko loss in a row?
his last fight before mercer was nearly a year ago to fedor.
sounds like t-shirt guy doesnt feel like flushing more money away into big timmy's pockets. i dont blame him, the goofs not worth a quarter what they pay him imo.
hopefully they get a more entertaining opponent for buentelo in time.

He's lucky 'cause The head hunter would have captured his prey, and I almost think Tom Atencio has confused Arlovski with Sylvia, probably not, but said scenario fits.

Fedor mentally KO'd him.

This was the first time Big Tim had ever been KO'ed.Both Fedor and Arlovski nearly KO'ed him,but finished him by submission.Randy dropped Tim and just whopped on him for 25 minutes.
But no,this is not Tim's second KO in a row-it is his first KO,ever. It's his third loss in a row,and his 4th loss in his last 5.
This is just a good excuse for T-shirt Guy to get Tim off the card and save $800K on a fight that no one cared about to start with.

Was he expected to make another 800k in this upcoming fight too? Wow. That would be like 100k per second of fighting if it lasted as long as the last fight

I would have liked to have seen Buentello vs. Sylvia, but if Tim has fallen off the wagon as bad as he appears to, well... Buentello can probably headhunt someone else.
Who do you guys think they will replace him with? Is Pedro Rizzo scheduled anywhere? That might be a decent fight.

It's to soon, I don't think he would get cleared after that devastating KO anyways.

Pedro Rizzo might be a step down Buentello right now. Rizzo hasn't fought in a year and hasn't won in nearly two, so I hope Affliction looks elsewhere.
Maybe Jeff Monson, which would be a stylistically boring fight for Buentello but has said in the past that he has interest in fighting the WAMMA champion, Ben Rothwell, who resembles Tim Sylvia, or Fabricio Werdum, if Strikeforce doesn't need him at the time?
EDIT: What about Cro Cop, since he's not signed exclusively with UFC?

LOL @ the Crocop one. That would probably be a pretty good fight in all reality.
I am pretty sure Rothwell is scheduled to fight Chase Gormley on the same card.
Maybe Affliction should look for an exciting heavyweight that nobody really knows about. Which brings up another point about them- they can put on good cards full of vets, but what really gets people sucked in is a new story to follow. A surprise up and comer gets people hooked like no other. Just remember how people fell in love with Eddie Alvarez after the Dream tourney.

Tom Atencio has stated that Buentello will probably face the winner of an upcoming fight between Gilbert Yvel and Pedro Rizzo (providing the winner emeges unscathed).
