If the CSAC has a "3 Strikes, You're Out" policy on failed drug tests by fighters, we're about to find out-and see it in action. Jeremy Tavares, who last fought at the 4/11 Strikeforce event, has failed a post-fight drug test, getting busted for marijuana. He was the only fighter who had a positive test on the card. This is the 3rd time he's failed such a test in only 4 pro fights, and at a 6/22 hearing the CSAC will recommend his license be revoked.

A pointless rule is a bad rule... there is a lot of debate on whether it is right to follow a bad rule.

hey i smoke as much pot as the next guy. but if your a professionall and its in your contract to not do drugs before a fight then you probly shouldnt do it, i mean he could have got baked after the fight just as easily and would not have had a problem.

It's not just an issue of advantage, but legality.

What a ridiculous statement, how the hell is pot an advantage? And as for legality, hmm I think I smell bacon.

How can some of you defend him? This is his job with a clear set of guidelines, which he failed 3 times. Would you violate clear cut rules at your job? I really want to know his logic in this. He made it to a Strikeforce card, which is a pretty big deal for an indie fighter, and now he is officially screwed. Unless its a case where this guy could care less about his career, there's just no point in "stickin it to the man" when your future is on the line.

maybe just pay all fighters $39 per fight so that they can't afford a sack ?

MMA used to be illegal too. If people hadn't done it anyway we would not have been where we are today.

I'm not sure how that relates... How are you comparing the increased activity of a sport to an illegal drug?

If the reason something should be avoided is because it is illegal, which is what the above posts states, then there are a whole lot of things that wouldn't be around today... including MMA, which used to be illegal in most states. NHB, the "forefather" of MMA was almost always held illegally without any sanctioning body.
If no one had broken the law during the "blackout years" it is very likely MMA would not be around today in the US.
Obviously it is not an exact comparison, but it does illustrate the point that illegal does not always equal bad.
Heck, bj's were illegal in five states until 2003. I don't know about you, but I love getting bj's and don't care what the law has to say about it.
