Just hours after learning that James Irvin was forced out of UFC 98 with a knee injury, MMAWeekly.com has confirmed that Xavier Foupa-Pokam will step in to replace him and face Drew McFedries in a middleweight showdown.

"Professor X" really got thrown to the wolves with his UFC debut against Kang.

IMO I think if Pokam plays it smart, and takes McFedries down he should get the submission. But he likes to bang so he will probably keep it standing. In the stand up I think McFedries is too one dimensional, so id also give the striking advantage to Pokam.

With all that said Pokam did just fight at 97 so he could be tired, but with 98 over 3 weeks away, i think he should pull up.

and also, it is a fight, so anything could happen

Nice. Won't be as good as McFed vs Irvin but still a good fight none the less.

Umm, I thinking Mcfedries because he can finish the fight quick.

But also Professor X could take drew down and sub him, but the fight does start out standing. And Pokam just fought.

It's not definite yet. X has to work out some immigration issues first.

wanted Irvin to get the win and send Mcferies packing to another organization but... Pokam should be able to do the same and yeah with this and the Okami injury, the main card is getting hammered

Why are some people so anxious to have fighters cut from the UFC? Especially a guy like McFedries, who is pretty much garunteed to come in and put on a show. Been fired from your job lately?

Agreed, the UFC can never win. Guys like Machida and Okami get boo'd to lose to get back sending when they have mad skill, but even when you do have guys that come out and put on a show the fans definitely want to see, they want them gone too. Makes no damn sense. It's a shame.

I think it'll be a good fight still, still got mcFederies though.I think he'll come out and take him out.

The reason I say this is because clearly the UFC is in a position now where they feel you have to win to stay and although Mcfedries comes to fight he's 3-4 and has lost 2 in a row 3 if he loses this one, hes not that good is the truth think josh haynes(comes ta fight but...) right

the main card is so different now. i thought all along that sherk edgar will be a great fight, so they can fall back on that one. But i never understand why a fight like that will be first. It happens often that a big fight happens before a less important fight. at 92, rampage and silva fight, then dollaway walks out. This would be similar to that, we see sher,k and edgar go to war, then watch proffessor x v mcfedries. sonnen mller is alright, but still barely main card worthy.
I am excited for 98, but its starting to feel like 85. i wouldnt be surprised if one more guy had to drop out.
