In 2008
- Lil' Wayne had the top selling album
- American Idol was the #1 TV show
Need I explain more about how the masses aren't exactly the smartest people in the world? 
In all seriousness, though... it's just a joke. I actually lived overseas for a number of years and got into soccer a little bit. It's just jokes

Thanks Wolfenstein! I'll share a funny one with you.... my dad loves BoondockSaints so much that he bought a dozen copies on VHS (yes he's an old man), keeps them in the trunk of his car and hands them out to various people he meets at the bar or elsewhere. He's like the movie's #1 fan! Imagine somebody you were chatting with at the bar tells you he's got something for you in the trunk of his car and then he pulls out a VHS tape LOL !
btw Achillesheal... I loved Equilibrium and it reminded me a lot of Gattaca
