MMAPayout.com has posted before on the UFC”s efforts to stem the tide of piracy of their PPV broadcasts. Up to this point these efforts have mainly been through going after bars and restaurants that illegally show their cards. This campaign is done mainly through the efforts of Joe Hand Promotions, who handles the bar and restaurant PPV business for the UFC.

The UFC may be going a step further into these efforts, judging from information put out by BayTSP, which provides online copyright monitoring, enforcement, measurement and monetization services for the entertainment industry, software and videogame makers and the publishing industry. The company recently announced:

One global sports franchise and two of the largest pay-per-view event promoters in the world have signed with BayTSP to protect and monetize broadcasts valued at more than $5 billion annually, the company announced today.

The logical companies to attach to this information would be the UFC and WWE for the PPV event promoters and Manchester United Football Club for the global sports franchise. The crackdown has already been cited by some as a possible reason behind the precipitous drop in traffic at the streaming site Justin.tv.

Makes sense. Although the UFC is not actually named as one of the companies

This is why i tell ppl not to post links and addy's for these places. of course they're cracking down. It makes it harder for us to see these events.

MMA should be free like baseball.

It's free on local broadcast TV when they show games.

can anyone tell me how much the ppv cost for a bar and restaurant, dose it depend on how many potential viewers or something like that?

When you can pay a large majority of your players millions, have more fans and bigger audience, then we can start talking.

My sisters husband owns a bar and they pay about 500 bucks per PPV and its even more if they want HD. It's crazy expensive for a bar to get it I know that.

I don't need cable to watch my local team and select out of market games. Same w/ any other major sport. I long for the day when MMA is treated the same way. One day we won't be called pirates. Until then I choose to watch it free and I choose to not post links on public forums. The more ppl do that the more these links get taken down. I've known of ppl watching on the more popular sites that have the stream taken down in the middle of an event.

I don't blame them for cracking down because they have to have certain concerns. I have different concerns. I'm a huge fan who can't afford 15+ ppv's/yr. And that's just the UFC and a cpl other majors.

One day they'll get "real" tv deals like other major sports.

They'll be cracking down...take that for what it's worth. I guess we'll have to wait and see the impact.
