A light heavyweight match-up between Brandon Vera and Matt Hamill is in the works for UFC 101 on Aug. 8 in Philadelphia. A source close to the fight confirmed the news to MMAWeekly.com, with *********** first reporting its possibility.
While contracts have yet to be signed, the fighters have agreed to the bout and are expected to make it official in the coming days.

Thank you Bowen, for doing what I attempted to do earlier.
To me this fight come a little out of left field, but I like it. Fight Matrix actually has Vera rated #18, and Hammil #22, so they're pretty damn close in the division in terms of rankings...well I mean meaningless MMA rankings...because organizations will always do whatever the hell they want. Good matchup by Joe Silva though, definetely a PPV worthy fight.

Probably the match before the last.
Both these guys need to reestablish themselves as forces to be reckoned with, and although their bouts with Munoz and Patt helped, a win here could move each a fight or two away from a crack at the title.
I don't like the fight though. Hamill's repeated takedown failures will lead to a fairly lackluster fight.

I agree 100%, a lot is on the line for each fighter. It's one of those contender or pretender matchups. I like the build up that comes with those kind of matchups.
It's a terrible matchup for Matt. I think he's outmatched in the standup, in the clinch (although Matt has pretty relentless dirty boxing), even on the ground. He could outwrestle Vera, and hope to hold him down, but like I said in an earlier thread...he seems very uncomfortable inside someone's guard. Maybe he'll work on that for this fight. I don't think we'll see any high kicks from Matt's end this time around at least...that's for damn sure lol.

Matt can only hope to out wrestle Vera and keep it to the ground but it could be very dangerous. Finally someone is going to show how bad Matt standup is, everyone is saying how good it as become but every time i see him fight i see how low is hands are plus is technique needs a lot of work. If Vera comes back with those brutal legs kicks matt would be able to shoot.
Vera 2rd TKO.

I have to disagree with most of you. I think Hamill takes this fight. I agree that Vera has the stand up edge but Matt is hard to knock out and I don't think Vera can stop Matts takedowns. Matt wins this fight with some solid ground and pound.

If vera can land the awesome leg kicks that he did against patt, then i see him taking the fight.....hamills never been known for striking defense, espcially leg kicks, and with veras ability to keep the fight on the feet, i see the leg kicks again being the difference..... opens up for more connecting opportunities....one thing tho, vera is a fighter that hasnt shown the ability to handle being pressured at times, and hamill brings the pressure....not saying vera folds, he just kinda of freezes up, and if hamill wins i see it happening starting that way

The winner is still two BIG wins away from a title shot, at least.
I think Vera will win, but I'm hoping for a Hamill victory. Just for the interview.

I think Vera takes this one by going after Hamill's legs with kicks early in the fight. This will make it hard for Matt to shout and will have to stand and trade, which will ultimately lead to a UD win for Vera.

I think Vera takes it in a similar fashion to Franklin. Hammil will most likely try to feel him out and strike in round one, and get his legs totally taken away by Veras kicks, making it harder for him to shoot for the rest of the fight. Plus I still dont like Hammils chances on the ground against somebody with solid jits, it only took Franklin like 30 seconds to get an armbar so Matt had to let him straight back up....
Vera, round 3 TKO.

I think as soon as Vera goes for his first leg kick Hamill shoots.
As much as I love the leg kick strategy, it really opens you up to being taken down, especially against a wrestler as good as Hamill.
Although maybe Matt will just walk towards him with his hands at his hips.
