According to sources close to Demian Maia, he is going to be next in line for a UFC Middleweight Title shot against the Anderson Silva-Thales Leites winner. No official date set but the date Maia's camp is expecting would likely put it at UFC 102.

Very interesting. I dont know if he should have gotten the next shot but he was one of the couple guys that should be next.

So good luck to him.

Also prolly, if they are banking on Silva to win, they could use styles to sell this match, Silva stand up, Maia ground.

I am sure everybody is tired of seeing this posted but....what about Okami? well since i got that off my chest, i think Maia poses problems for Andy Silva and that would make for an interesting fight. I actually would rather have seen him fight for the belt now instead of Leites, no offense to Leites.

Wow.. Okami gets screwed again.

The one good thing I think can come of this is if Maia beats Silva (assuming Silva beats Leites) then hopefully the UFC will let Yushin fight Silva. That would work out perfectly for the UFC, especially if Yushin Okami beats Silva in that rematch, because then he's on the way out the door, he'll retire, and the UFC will have dragged his name through the mud with two losses. They also won't have to deal with having a no name (to the casual fan) holding the belt. Because I'm sure they don't want Okami to fight Silva because he's not a fan favorite. If they can, I'm sure they'd love to do that

Not sure how legit this is, because it sounds like Maia's camp is expecting the matchup to be made, but they haven't received any word that would indicate such from the UFC brass. I hope it happens though, because it would be the most excited I've been for a Silva defense since Hendo.

Okami will get his oppurtunity. I think the UFC was expecting him to start becoming accustomed to fighting in the UFC--and start winning fights in either dominating fashion, or finishing fights in spectacular fashion. Hasn't happened yet. I'm not even sure if they could create a highlight reel of Yushin. He'll get his shot though, because he's almost cleared out the MW division himself.

I think he should have to fight Marquardt first. Then if he wins on to Silva. I have been behinde Maia from jumpstreet, but Nate is worthy of a number 1 contender match IMO.

I think Maia is a great fighter by all means and I am one that thought he was a title contender from the moment he was first signed by the UFC, BUT what happened to Okami and Marquardt. They are both title contenders who deserve a shot probably ahead of Maia. I want to see Marquardt - Maia or Maia - Okami before I see Maia - Silva.

Okami looks to be in his prime and the public is ready to see the highly anticipated rematch with Silva. MArquardt on the other hand has improved so dramatically from the day he lost to Silva that he's worth fighting Silva, now.

The positive side to all this is that just as early as six months ago we didn't think that there were many worth opponents to Silva and the UFC wanted him to move up to LHW just to keep him busy. Now, we are discussing who's more of deserving of a chance. That's ironic.

Go Silva.

I think Silva has enough BJJ defence get it stood up if Maia gets him down. I think this is a fight that would get Silva pumped and I would not be suprised to see Maia eat a knee on the first takedown attempt.

I thought either Hendo or Bisping was supposed to be fighting him next??

The only way Okami will get a title shot is if all the MW take a bus ride to Disneyland and it crashes and he is the only one left. Name a top guy that Okami has beat Dean Lister he isn't a top guy. Even Tanner may be five years ago, Mike Swick the guy fights a WW now. Jason MacDonald he has done to much lately. He has already proven by losing to Franklen he can't be a top five guy so why give him a title shot when there are far better guy. Let him beat a Marquardt, Maia, Henderson, or Bisping then maybe a title shot. Hey I just beat four fifth graders in a row do I get a title shot now.

5 ufc fights 5 finishes maia deserves a shot at the championship more then any other mw. this probably sets up the winner of hendo/bisping for the next no.1 contender.
who know's though there is marqaurdt and okami who are right there too. a marquardt/okami fight would make a lot of sense.

This is a tough one for me...I'm a fan of Demian but I also think Nate and Okami are deserving as well...I think they should give the shot to okami (that would be the most fair however unlikely) then have the winner fight the winner of bisping/henderson then the winner of that fight the winner of nate/maia

Okami vs Maia would solve a lot, part of me still wants Silva to avenge his "loss" to Okami and to shut up the people saying Silva's kryptonite is japanese fighters. If Okami beats a top contender soon he shouldnt be stonewalled anymore. I dont disagree with Maia getting the shot at all, whos gonna outstrike Silva? probably wont ever happen again (last time I saw Anderson get handled was against Chonan)
