July 11 is shaping up to be a busy night for mixed martial arts enthusiasts.

Affliction will counter-program UFC 100 on the summer date with its third event at a location yet to be determined, according to sources close to the situation.

The card is just under a week from the first anniversary of “Banned,” the clothing company’s initial foray into MMA promotion.

This will only make the UFC and Dana turn up the heat even more for UFC 100. This might make them even put one more title up or if Chuck wins he could be on the card.

There isn't another fight other then Barney and Fedor that would make you pick affliction over ufc and for most that won't work anyways. Sometimes you have to lose money to make money if they want to draw on that night they will have to pull out all the stops

They are talking about not having Fedor vs Barney on this card? How in the world is this a good business move?

I don't know why you play chicken with a tricycle when the other guy is driving a tank but its one of those situations where your not gonna be able to look away but it def. aint gonna end well.

They say they can't afford to do Fedor vs. Barnett on free TV because the fight would cost too much money............but both guys are fighting on the card. That makes no sense at all-by the time you add up the purses of their two opponents, that's probably what they'd have to throw at Barnett or Fedor to do the fight.

But the real question is-so who are they going to get to fight Fedor?Since it's for the WAMMA belt, they have to pick someone who isn't a complete can. They don't have many choices-Overeem would be a good one,but he's tied up with Strikeforce for any US fights.Cro Cop is a possibility but it's doubtful he'd take that difficult of a fight coming off of major knee surgery.I think their only choice would be a rematch with Arlovski, and that would cost them just as much as a fight with Barnett.

Oh well. We'll probably end up seeing Fedor fight someone like Ben Rothwell or Roy Nelson.

WB.

No matter what, I would pay money gladly to watch UFC 100 over Affliction any day. That's just me though.

The smart thing to do would be to keep that date until 100 is set and then change to a week earlier

Honestly that's what I was thinking. I still think this might just be some kind of misdirection to get the UFC to lock in their schedule to make it more difficult for them to launch any kind of counter-programming. Possibly they're trying to force the UFC to stack their 100 card so that they will be short on good fights to put up against them later? It seems unlikely but it still seems more likely than them intentionally going head to head with such an important UFC event when they weren't even willing to go up against normal events in the past.

I don't know, it still just smells fishy to me. It seems like it's so dumb that it can't be true. Unless they think they've found some genius way to make the UFC's popularity pay off for them I just don't see how this could be their plan. I'm still calling shenanigans here.

there is a heap of good fights that affliction could carry
the problem is, no matter who is on the card it wont out do UFC.
they could put Couture/Fedor as the main event and it wont out sell UFC.
not enough people know about it, and not enough people will even take a chance to punt with someone other than UFC.
in all honesty, if you knew that the UFC 100 card would suck as much as the last UFC card, would you still pay $50 for it? or go with an Affliction? im betting most would still choose UFC.
Fedor/Barnett, Little Nog/Babalu, Ortiz/Sokoudjou, Arlovski/Buentello, Yvel/Sylvia, plus Duarte, Heiron, Lauzon, Linland, Quach, Belfort, Rizzo, Sidelnikov etc etc
some great possibilities

but no one will pump for it cos its not UFC.

Same way no ****** knew about Dream 7 last week, cos it aint UFC

Not making Fedor-Barnett for this event will be the death blow for Affliction. Otherwise they can't hope to compete against a card that will have GSP-Alves AND Lesnar-Mir (assuming Mir is 100% recovered from his recent injuries) among other big fights. And Affliction can't really do it the week before for one simple reason: July 4. NOBODY (in the US anyway) watches TV that night unless it's fireworks.
