The UFC 99 main event of Rich Franklin vs. Wanderlei Silva is scheduled to be contested at a catchweight of 195 instead of at Middleweight, which Silva is dropping to, or Light Heavyweight, which Franklin now fights at. In explaining the reasons why, Dana White says he "met Rich in the middle".

i have no problem with the catchweight because the fight doesn't have title implications. i had much more of a problem with rich vs. henderson at 205 when the winner gets a potential title shot at 185, that didn't make sense, this does.

Makes sense, but this fight seems like a pit stop for both fighters.

it is, right now franklin is basically fighting to feed his family imo, he fought henderson who is really 185 fr a chance on the tuf show to fight bisping who is at 185 and now he's fighting silva but that won't really do much in terms of the 205 ladder...

either way catchweight makes sense it allows rich franklin to put on a little more real good muscle before his next lhw bout and allows silva to workj his way into 185, I know rich doesnt like cutting weight but he needs to get a little bigger and start cutting weight if he really wants to be a force at lhw instead of just being put in big headliner bouts

I've got no problems with it. Especially since this is a fight most of us are dying to see and both fighters are in transition where weight class is concerned. Catch weights are things I particularly care to see, but in this case I think the reasons are good enough and the fighters aren't next in line for a title shot in their respective weight classes or anything.

I can understand why Rich doesn't want to cut back down to 185.

It's what I would've suggested, a perfect weight especially for Silva-it allows him to more gradually make the cut from 205 to 185 and I think it's fair to Rich as well.

sadly only bc of one man... Andy Silva is still fighting. Once he retires maybe Rich will be back to dominate.

its at 198 because its at Silvas prime weight. Lighter than LHW but not by much. advantage still sorta goes to Franklin cuz he is obviously bigger, but I never count Wandy out

They made some moves to make this dream match happen. Both guys long time champs, and heavy strikers. Show be a hell of a main event. I have no problem with an occassional catch weight fight.
