Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira apparently wasn't the fighter he usually is against Frank Mir at UFC 92, and now Dana White is telling us why. Though he didn't have blood tests to prove this, Dana said he could tell just by looking at Nog that the fighter had a "real bad" staph infection going into the fight.

I could tell right away that something was up with Nog. He looked very sluggish and just wasn't himself. I'd like to see him get a rematch with Mir when he's 100%.

I think we know well enough that most Brazilians have too much pride to make excuses.

I can't recall Nog, Wanderlei, Anderson, etc ever making excuses for their losses.

"White Confirms Nogueira Had Staff Before UFC 92 Fight "

I would think the would catch something as staff and staph kinda quickly? Meh...

Anyways, nog is a champ and will rebound fast I am sure!

I haven't heard "Anderson" and loss in the same sentence in such a long time.

Nog was getting beat up in the Heath Herring and Tim Sylvia fights too,the only difference is that both those guys allowed Nog to recover and come back for the win.

Frank Mir kept the pressure on and got the win.

I don't think it had anything to do with staph infection.Watch the first round of Sylvia/Nog and the first round of Mir/Nog.Not a whole lot of difference. In the second round Mir came out and put Nog away, while Sylvia had played it safe and let Nog get things together a little.

And this is coming from someone who picked Nog to straight up destroy Mir.I just think Nog is getting shop worn and just ran into someone who was willing to dive in for the finish, unlike Herring (who literaly had him finished) or Sylvia (who could have finished him in the 1st as well). This isn't a nock on Nog-he's one of my all time favorite fighters and always will be-but the guy has taken 5 carrers worth of punishment in one career. It's finally caught up to him.

If Dana wants to say Nog had staph, that's fine.I don't think you'll ever hear Nog say that though.IIRC he said that he just had an off night and Frank beat him. That's what a true sportsman says after a loss, and Nog is a true sportsman in every sense of the word.

WB.

You forgot the Y in They. See everyone makes mistakes.

Thank god it was staph infection. I thought that basically Big Nog had gotten old since his last fight.

I can't wait to see a rematch after Brock beats Mir up in the rematch

I don't think it was all staph infection like WB said earlier. I'm sure he had it I'm not denying that, but it's true that Mir has been knocked down and rocked in all his fights in the UFC so far, but Mir is the only guy to do it with a legit ground game and wasn't scared to follow up with some ground strikes. I think Nog is just about done in the sport, but I respect the guy none the less.
