On the heels of their Featherweight GP, DREAM has begun announcing the participants for their 8-man Welterweight GP. They've loaded it right away, among the announced participants today are perennial Top 5 Welterweight Hayato Sakurai and current WAMMA Lightweight Champion Shinya Aoki, who will move up to Welterweight to participate.

WELL At least we get to see 2 solid fighters in the tourny in Sakurai and Aoki. I really hope we get to see more along these lines of star power.

Awesome. I now Shinya wanted to make the FW Grand Prix, but there was just no way he was going to make the weight without cutting off a body part. There's not really a ton of talent at WW in Japan though. Most of the talent is at LW so I think maybe we'll see a lot of LW's just move up a class. So so far we also have Ikuhisa Minowa, and thewinner of Hidetaka Monma vs. Seichi Ikemoto.

A few potential candidates...
Jake Ellenberger 19 - 4 - 0 (he fights for M-1 and they have a good relationship with FEG)
Luiz Azeredo 12-8 (he's a former pride vet)
Jim Wallhead 15-5 (recently started fighting with M-1 after missing out on a TUF spot, I'd love to see him in the Grand Prix)
Jake Shields 22-4-1 (I know he's caught up in a deal with Strikeforce, but they haven't been adverse to exchanges of talent)
Katsunori Kikuno 9-1 (Fights in Deep at LW, but I think he's mostly fought at 165 and would make a great addition)

Minowa is NOT in the GP. He's on the card in a non-GP match.

Also participating in a non-GP fight will be the always popular Ikuhisa Minowa.

Jim Wallhead was told he was to good for TUF, or so im told. So I wouldnt be surprised to see him signing with the ufc and missing out on this tourney.

I really love that DREAM is keeping the GP alive. Does anyone know what weight this will be contested at?

I wanna see the Aoki / Sakurai rematch very much as I've always been a fan of Mach, I see it going the same way but should get more recognition this time if they end up fighting. I'm just not as impresssed with Aoki as others, has no standup so he'll dance around and butt scoot with his mysteriously rainbow attire to avoid the standup and get it to guard. I still feel the LW's out of the UFC are kinda overrated as they hardly ever fight and I'm interested to see what happens to Aoki's status win or lose this tourney.
