“This weekend is the GSP/BJ rematch, I’ve been doing a lot of interviews on this topic, since I’ve fought both of them (lost to both and beat them both). I think this fight comes down to a lot of things, I think GSP will have a slight wrestling advantage and I think BJ will have a submission advantage. GSP might be a little quicker with his punches; but I believe BJ has more power and has a stronger chin. If BJ shows up in good shape, I think he can get his hand raised at the end. If BJ doesn’t show up in good shape, then he might have some problems.”
– Former welterweight champion Matt Hughes share his prediction on the upcoming megafight between champions Georges St. Pierre and BJ Penn via Matt-Hughes.com. As Hughes points out, he has competed against both fighters, splitting the series with Penn and losing the last two to “Rush.” Hughes is set to take on Matt Serra at UFC 98 on May 23. St. Pierre and Penn will collide this Saturday, Jan. 31 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

I am a HUGE Hughes fan but in all honesty he does not have a good record in picking fights. He has fought both these guys on multiple occasions though so you have to respect what he says. in my opinion....GSP will dominate with his wrestling and take BJ in the late stages of the second round via G&P.

lol how is matt hughes wrong? he didnt pick a winner haha... "if penn is in shape then he'll have his hand raise"... If penn wins, hughes will say that he was in shape... if gsp wins, penn wasnt in good enough shape lol
Penn's conditioning will play a huge factor in this fight because its a 5 round fight and gsp can push the pace for 5 rounds. I still dont think he gassed against hughes in their second fight... I'm one of the few who saw the xrays showing the tear in his ribs and know that when you cant breathe properly... ur stamina is ****ed. The thing is that bj has never been in shape above 155, and has never showed 5 round stamina in any of his fights. I'm giving the advantage in this fight to gsp because I think he has more tools, a bigger size and strength advantage at 170, and with those advantages... he'll be able to execute a greg jackson gameplan to the T. I'm predicting a unanimous decision for gsp... but if penn gasses, then gsp has the opportunity to finish it in the later rounds.

yeah, penn didn't gas in the 2nd fight w/hughes. I don't understand why anyone thinks that. Even during the fight i knew something happened because it was an instant change in performance. When we people gas they gradually slow down. He lost the fight for sure but he was beating the crap out of hughes until that happened and didn't tap or go out when he was getting his face pounded on over and over.
I can't wait for this fight!

I have no doubt that BJ will be in shape. But I still think Georges takes it.
I think Matt is still pissed that Georges wasn't impressed by his performance.

Just because he didn't pick a winner doesn't mean he wasn't wrong. Maybe he was saying he was wrong by thinking there was any way at all that Penn could win......weather he was in shape or not.

Even if Penn is in better shape, St. Pierre will win the fight.

Matt Hughes will be the only fighter to have beaten both GSP and BJ.
