UFC newcomer Derek Downey (10-3 MMA, 0-0 UFC), a six-year vet who's won five of his past six fights, has signed a multi-fight deal with the UFC and will make his octagon debut in place of an injured Amir Sadollah (1-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) on next week's UFC Fight Night 17 card.

Multiple sources close to the fighter today told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) of the signing.

good to see Catone will fight, poor guy has been spending $$$ on training. Finally he'll get his check to catch up on bills.

you know thats a great point that too many people, even the hardcore fans, forget too often. guys like chuck and randy are well off and drive fast cars and live in big houses and i think we get caught believing thats how it is far too often. most of these guys struggle to make ends meat, 3 fights a year at $10,000 is not much to live on, especially with training costs on top of living expenses. so fantastic point ordep, props are well deserved on this one.
