"I feel like I'm the same Dan Henderson [despite my age]," he said. "Obviously, those first two [UFC] fights were two [scheduled] five-round fights. I think I almost prepared for those. I was real ready, conditioning-wise. For whatever reason, I got a little tired this fight in that third round.

"I don't know if it was from getting nailed in the ribs or just getting tired. Either way, I'm the same fighter. I had a good day today."

Henderson is a perfectionist who wasn't ebullient despite beating one of the UFC's top fighters. Franklin left the middleweight division while still widely regarded as the second-best fighter in the class. He also became an instant contender at 205 pounds, almost certainly the UFC's best class.

Henderson wasn't pleased that he tired in the third and allowed Franklin to take that round. Most 38-year-old fighters -- heck, most fighters, period -- would have been happy to walk away with a win over Franklin.

Henderson's victory puts him in an elite group, joining Silva (twice) and undefeated Lyoto Machida as the only men to defeat Franklin.

"I could have done more in that third round," Henderson said solemnly while sipping from a bottle of water. "That's what I'm disappointed about."

to me it seemed like a controversial decision, such is life when you leave it to the judges.

i disagree, i thought hendo definitely won the first two rounds, they were close but hendo won them both. he muscled rich around, but that might have been clouded a little because rich won the third more convincingly than dan won the first two, but he still won two out of three rounds.

Youre right. It was clearly 2 rounds to 1 in favor of Henderson.

It was contraversial...But the real contraversy was how the hell did one just see it as 30-27 for Franklin?

If the fight ended up a draw I would have laughed my ass off. How does that work for TUF? Okay, so Hendo trains them monday through friday and Franklin gets them on the weekends.

I had it 29-28 for Hendo. Rich clearly knew 30-27 was completely out of left field. Dan is lucky it wasn't a 4 round fight, because the tide was turning fast. Rich looked awesome, I think he could actually move up rankings with his performance. He just couldn't keep Dan off of him the first two rounds and Dan did some serious GnP.

If Rich ever gets a title shot, it's tough to see him losing a five round decision because it looks like he can outwork anyone. I'd love to see him fight Forrest Griffin when he's ready to come back.

Am I the only one that thought Rich clearly won that fight? It was extreamly close but I felt confidant that Ace had it in the bag......

The judge who scored 30-27 for Franklin was out of his mind. First round was very clearly Henderson, second is in my opinion for Henderson but that one was really close and could be seen either way. Third one went for Franklin.

I can't see how someone can think Rich clearly won the fight.

One has to question the judge who scored it 30-27. I feel Dan won 29-28, but hey, I could see somehow someone seeing 29-28 for Franklin. This fight sort of reminded me of the Hendo/Rampage fight. Dan didn't really lose that one, he just didn't win it. Rampage did just a little more than him.

Which is frustrating as hell to me to see Dan put himself in those situations. I feel that if he just trained his cardio a bit harder and turned it up a notch in pace during fights he could literally beat almost anybody. Imagine a guy like Dan Henderson with a Clay Guida type pace. No one could stop him.

His ego also gets big and he wants to stand and bang. He's smart enough to know to score points in the clinch with a takedown, but it seems like a lot of times he does "just enough". Frustrating to watch so much talent succumb to a bit of laziness. I'm sure as hell not going to straighten him up, though.

Also- everyone should certainly question the 30-27 judge. Out of his freaking mind and/or obviously corrupt.

This was a such a crap fight.....

Only because I wanted both to win.....ha ha I would have been happy with a draw so that neither had to lose.
