MMANews.com is reporting that Heath Herring will be fighting Brazilian Junior Dos Santos at UFC 97, which will take place in Montreal. They are basing their report off of comments made by Gabe Morrency, who hosts Hardcore Sports Radio on Sirius XM. Herring's last fight was a UFC 87 loss to current UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar while Dos Santos' last bout was a stunning UFC 90 victory over Fabricio Werdum.

More from MMANews.com:

Earlier today it was announced by Gabe Morrency during a broadcast of his show "Sports Rage",on Hardcore Sports Radio (Sirius 98) that a heavyweight match up between "The Texas Krazy Horse" Heath Herring and Brazilian Junoir dos Santos is in the works for UFC 97 which is tentatively scheduled to take place in Montreal, Canada in April.

In Herring's last bout at UFC 87 in August, he was steamrolled by Brock Lesnar on Lesnar's path to the heavyweight title.

dos Santos on the other hand debuted in late 2008 with a stunning KO finish of highly touted contender Fabricio Werdum. It was be Werdum's exit bout from the UFC.

This will be interesting, Herring has a great chin and Junior has great hands. Unstoppable force meets unmovable object. Herring by UD.

Bravo Joe Silva. I'd heard reports Dos Santos would be facing a UFC newcomer in his next bout. I'm glad they changed their minds and are giving him another quality veteran that could be a notch in his belt on the way to a title shot. Provided of course he gets past the always game Herring.

How?

Dos Santos is scheduled to fight Stefan Struve at 95 or something like that

herring is still a pretty solid crafty vet, i don't know who to pick because i have seen dos santos just once, and while he was very impressive it's a short sample, these are the toughest fights to call.

This should be a pretty good fight. With the way that Junior leveled Werdum it will be hard not to pick him, especially if there is an underdog bonus. Herring is a vet and as others have said he is always game. As a fan of the old days of pride I want to see Herring get back on track, but Dos Santos could strike with another bolt of leather lightning and level Herring.... I think it depends for me on if there is an "underdog" in this fight because if both show up ready to bang it should be an all out war. Also glad they're not feeding Dos Santos cans to build him as a name before seeing what he is made of.

I was having a tough time picking that fight between Dos Santos and Struve at 95, but this one shouldn't be too tough. Herring is definitely game, but I don't think that they'd be giving him to JDS if they thought he was going to win.

Yeah I didn't think they would do this to Dos after such a nice win. Glad I don't have to pick the fight lol.

Herring is tough as nails.
I mean Heath is beatable for sure, but he's one of those guys you almost have to submit or fight to a decesion. He's tough to knockout.
This should be a great fight.
