While there have been no officially announced bouts by the organization, light-heavyweights Mike Patt (12-3 MMA, 0-1 UFC) and Brandon Vera (9-3 MMA, 5-3 UFC) have verbally agreed to meet at UFC 96.

Sam Caplan of Fiveouncesofpain.com first reported the likelihood of the bout earlier today, and MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) was able to confirm the agreements with multiple sources close to the bout.

UFC 96 is scheduled for March 7 at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio.

Ohio-native Patt will be looking for his first win in the octagon. The BodogFIGHT veteran made an unsuccessful first appearance for the organization at UFC 88 in September. Patt entered the bout having won eight of his previous nine outings, but was stopped in the first round by Tim Boetsch after taking the fight on less than three week's notice.

Despite the unsuccessful initial outing, Patt told MMAjunkie.com that he hoped to become a permanent fixture in the UFC.

"There are plenty of places to fight, and some guys will tell you how they want to fight here or there," Patt said. "But given the chance, they would all fight for the UFC regardless of what they might say. It validates everything you do as a fighter. I would be very happy to call the UFC home."

Vera will enter the bout looking for just his second win in his past five bouts. After establishing himself as a UFC contender with wins over Frank Mir, Assuerio Silva, Justin Eilers and Fabiano Scherner, Vera would drop his next two bouts to Fabricio Werdum and Tim Sylvia. Those losses prompted Vera to make a cut to 205 pounds.

Vera was victorious in his debut at light-heavyweight over Reese Andy, but lost a close split-decision to Keith Jardine in his most recent bout at UFC 89.

I didn't expect we would see Patt again, after he was steamrolled in two minutes by Tim Boetsch, much less as an opponent for Brandon Vera. The UFC is kind of stuck in a tough position with Vera. He makes six figures but fights like he makes four, yet he's very marketable and another organization would probably snatch him up in a second.

Anything less than a spectacular finish would be a dissapointment. Hopefully the switch to 205 is just in a transitional kink, because I'd like to see him live up to the hype.

Yeah this fight will answer a lot of questions surrounding Vera. But idk how vera will do against contenders even if he wins this fight.

WAR MIKE PATT!! i dont think ufc finds guys on very short notice and then only gives them 1 fight. typically they alteast get 2 although they sign like a 4 fight deal.

If Vera loses he should be on his way out the door. If he wins but doesn't finish the fight or put on a great show his contract should be renegotiated.

I don't think any contract should be renegotiated, it's BS. The NFL pisses me off for that, and the UFC pisses me off that they show people the door like they do.

IMO the UFC is throwing Vera a bone here. A can that will go down in a hurry if just punched in the face.Good move for looking to market Vera. he needs a few wins to solidify his name.......again

but Vera needs to shape up quick, because he hasn't looked impressive now for a long time.

while i agree about a contract being renegotiated unless both sides agree, you blame the NFL and UFC but dont mention the players and fighters who hold out with 3 years or fights left on there contract.

Why wouldnt they put Vera against someone like Chuck? I used to be a big fan of Vera`s but he really seems overated now and beating Patt isn`t gonna make him look any better.
