Eleven-year veteran Dennis Hallman (40-12-2 MMA, 1-3 UFC), perhaps best known for a pair of quick submission wins over former UFC welterweight champion Matt Hughes, is reportedly under consideration for a return the sport's biggest organization.
Hallman's manager, Ken Pavia, discussed the possibility during Thursday's edition of TAGG Radio (www.taggradio.com), the official radio partner of MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com).
"We actually talked to the UFC at length," Pavia said ."And we almost got that (Jon) Fitch fight in January, but (Akihiro) Gono stepped up. But it was between us and Gono. And [Hallman] might come back to the UFC."
Hallman was most recently seen in a November 2007 submission win over Jeremiah Metcalf in the California-based Strikeforce organization. The 33-year-old was then suspended for one year after testing positive for Drostanolone and Nandrolone Metabolite -- two types of steroids -- following the bout.
Pavia said the suspension is now over, and that Hallman is weighing several offers for his services.
"The suspension actually came out late November," Pavia said. "So he's now eligible. It's been like two or three weeks, and we've weighed two or three offers.
"We have legitimate, decent offers for him -- the likes of which he hasn't seen in a while."
Hallman has fought for a variety of organizations in his career, including the IFL, SportFight, Rumble on the Rock and King of the Cage. The Washington native handed Hughes the first two losses of his illustrious career, including a submission win in Hughes' second trip to the octagon at UFC 29.
Hallman would lose his next three bouts for the UFC to Jens Pulver, Frank Trigg and Jorge Rivera.
Pavia also cites Strikeforce as a possible home for Hallman. And despite competing most recently at 185 pounds, Pavia said a move to welterweight also seems likely for Hallman.

It will be interesting to see him fight in the UFC again, but not that interesting. I just don't think he will have much to offer to the division. Not with guys like St. Pierre, Fitch, Alves, Koscheck, Sanchez, Swick, Davis, and all of the other top fighters in the division.
Matt Brown is a good 1st fight for him.

If he picks up a win i wouldnt be suprised to see him fight Hughes again regardless of the serra/hughes outcome. Would be a nice fight for hughes to go out on if he wins.

looking like ufc is setting up hughes voyage out
i think hughes vs serra and then a showdown with hallman to call it a career
this will be hughes last year in 09

I'd like to see Hughes in both those fights to see how much he declined. But yeah, they're either getting hallman to be a marketable can fight for one of the top guys' comeback fight or setting Hallman up against a can can to set up a marketable Hughes exit.
Either way I like him in the UFC. Not that he'll do much. And if he scored another quick sub on Hughes it'll be pretty memorable.

Hallman has the credentials no doubt. But he is 38 and not getting any younger. I wonder if he would fight at 170 or 185. Sherdog has him listed at MW. Either way it will be a long hard doad to follow. 170=GSP,Fitch,Alves,Kos,Lytle,Taylor. 185 is A. Silva,Machida, T Silva,Hendo, Franklin, Hammil. His BJJ is great but his stand up is to say the least lacking. I just don't see him having any luck in the UFC.

I dont see Hallman coming for the UFC and if he does I dont see Dennis facing matt hughes, since hughes has lost to hallman twice which doesnt make sense as to why they would fight for a 3rd time. Plus I dont think hughes could win. I think hughes will retire after the Serra fight.
Hallman goes to Strikeforce, I think because of his age.

Usually when a fighter wins two fights against another fighter, people get mad at the prospect of yet another bout between the two. The reason they are not in this case is simply because Hallman is lesser known than Couture and Chuck and Hughes.
I'm watching Rumble on the Rock right now and Hallman is really impressing me. I don't see why real MMA fans would think that all he has to offer is a rematch with a guy he decisively beat twice already.
