So I bought a laptop and stepped on it in a drunken stumble to my room after a late night of beer pong. I tried to return it but the LCD is shattered.

I'm using its monitor out because I have an LCD monitor.

But here's my question. The screen of the laptop is in my way so I want to saw it off. I'm not in any danger of ruining the laptop right? The only cords going to the screen portion of the laptop are for the screen and won't affect it's performance using the monitor out capabilities correct?

Thanks in advance

Well, I've never tried to saw one off, that for sure. But I'd be willing to bet that if you take apart what is left og the moniter there should be a spot to simply disconnect the picture signal. Then maybe you can test it out using the LCD with the picture signal not running to the laptop screen. If that works I'd guess you can probably do away with the rest of the broken screen.

Don't take my word for it, I've never done it for myself. Just seams like a good place to start.

Good Luck!

Do what real men do and rip the screen off already!

Sorry everyone else is telling you the logical thing to do, you needed someone to sit on the opposite shoulder telling you bad things.

I will leave you with a quote....an ancient chinese proverb I believe.....

Actually if you do that you will not be able to use the computer. It will default to an error telling you that the lcd is not working. You will get a beep error code probably three sets of three beeps. If you can't get it fixed, it would be best to just break off all the glass but keep the wiring connected. I work for a computer company doing phone support. If it makes you feel better, you are not the first person to step on their computer. Probably not even the first this week.
