I use soda more than pop, but this is more of a geographical thing. Most Northerners call it pop and most Southerners call it soda. But most of the time for the name brand cola product I'll just ask for a "Coke." And that includes Coke, Pepsi, RC, whatever.

Put me down for soda! I only use pop when I'm talking about popcorn, or when a baloon breaks.

I find the term "Pop" (when referring to soda) retarded , its what soda does , not what it is.

Pop all the way, infact if you asked for a glass of soda here, it is essentially just fizzy water and not too pleasant.

Pop.
I grew up in Massachusetts. Now I reside in Oklahoma. I get funny looks from my friends all the time. It annoys me to an unbearable extent when people try to correct it also.
Pop! Its one syllable, starting and ending with a plosive consonant, easy to say.
Soda . . . its two syllables, and the phonetics of the word are just bland, so-duh.

It's "Our" favorite color.
Nice effort though.

Its not the yanks who are calling it pop.
I also agree with the post above that it is much more annoying when you call all soda "Coke". I went into a dinner once on a roadtrip in GA and I told the waitress I wanted a coke. When she asked what kind I thought she meant brand but she didn't. Those crazy southerners. Sometimes I swear the heat has fried thier brains.

Dude what the hell are you talking about. Nobody says pop in MA. I live in RI and work in MA and I have never ever heard a local say pop. You must live on the border of western MA or something.

Yeah, I live in NH right on the Mass border, and no one calls it pop around here.
