That's a question that has been posed to some Athletic Commission heads in the wake of the massive weight differences in the Brock Lesnar-Randy Couture fight, where Brock weighed in 45 pounds heavier than Randy. While the heads of the NSAC and New Jersey Athletic Commission have differeing views, recent research says that, on a regular basis, David is going to beat Goliath more often than the other way around.

I think a cruiserweight division is needed. Only problem is the HW division, in the ufc at least, will be pretty depleted.

i think that they should put a division in between the LHW and the HW
thats the best way to solve the randy couture problem
he was a big LHW and is a small HW

I know some promotions in Japan used to have (maybe still do) a setup that would've resolved this problem: They had a 206-220 division then a 221-265 division. I found it interesting that Kizer said they still have a "Super Heavyweight" (265+) division in Nevada even though most of us outside the state probably have never seen it actually used.

i think that there should be another weight class. even though the bigger guy doesnt always win, some fights people are just at a ridiculous size disadvantage. (i.e. couture v. lesnar)

EDIT: to clarify, i dont think there should be a bigger weight class, but a cruiserweight division. hardly anyone would be able to go to a super heavyweight division

Another weight class would be the most retarded thing to ever happen to MMA.

Maybe there should be a lighter limit.
Is the 265lb mark is too high?
Someone can cut 30 pounds or more for weigh ins and then fight at around 300lbs.
Insane.
I don't see a super heavy weight division being very exciting.
There aren't too many fighters above 240lbs or so...and that would only deplete the heavyweight class.
I think it is fine like it is.
Lesnar obviously can be beat.
Mir submitted him...and I think Couture proved he can beat him.
You just need to avoid those cinder block fists.
It's all good.
I think Mir can do it again, I think Couture could in a rematch and I think Nog can do it too.
On the same token I think Lesnar can beat all of them as well.
Give it some time.
Time will tell.
It will be exciting in the process.

The only active fighters right now that I can think of who would even fit into the over-265 class now are Brock and Antonio Silva. Brock probably cuts from the 280s and Sherdog lists Bigfoot at 300.

NO. period. HW is HW. it has a cap, and most small HW's are dropping to LHW anyway. There is absolutely no need, unless you like watering down already weak div's. jmho.

Call it what you want but from 205-250 should be a class (and that is a huge weight class!) 250+ should be a different one.

Shane Carwin, Tim Sylvia, Hong Man Choi (haha), and I can't really think of many more people who are big enough and good enough (just kidding about Choi btw), I could see Josh Barnett fighting 265+ and having a bit of a tough time, if Kimbo ever got good he is big enough, the people are out there they just haven't made a super heavyweight ultimate fighter. I mean look at the lightweights before TUF, they had next to nothing when it came to their division.

I think it should be 206-230 (cruiser weight) and 231-265 (HW). THat being said i don't think this should be done yet as the HW division is still to weak. They need to build up the talent before doing this. Why not have a HW TUF next time? With actual HW's. Not guys who wanna drop to 205

I think in the future it will be nessecary. Right now though the HW division is already lacking depth, and to cut it in half would only deplete the division more. A few years down the road though and I'd like to see a 220lb division.

Cutting the HW limit to 250lbs would be sufficient imo
