Perhaps lost in the headlines about Jorge Gurgel getting cut by UFC is news that Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou was also cut. No specifics on Sokoudjou's cut yet.

I agree with this cut. He's a fan favorite but it's pretty clear that he's got a lot of leaning to do before he makes his mark in MMA. He's very physically gifted, and has great Judo. I think he just needs more time to better understand his gas tank, and how to game plan.

We'll see him back in the UFC some time down the road.

It doesnt really surprise me that they cut him, he'll have a few fights outside the UFC, dominate, then return. I hope the best for that guy, he is raw but has tons and tons of talent.

He needs to loose some muscle if hes going to have a shot at ever winning a title. It can hardly come as a suprise he gasses early when you think how much oxegen his muscles must use. Unless he goes on a run and K.Os everybody he fights within 2 rounds, hes never going to be a threat. No doubt the guys athleticly gifted, but i thought everybody knew by now that being totally ripped doesnt mean your going to win fights. (cough cough houston alexander)

PRIDE's collapse now seems like perhaps the worst thing that could've happened to him. It came as he was really starting to hit his stride and work into title contention, and he just couldn't translate it into UFC success. Perhaps now he can go back to Japan and get back to that level he was at before.

Really disappointed but I do understand it. Im a huge Soko fan and hes so young that his future is ridiculously bright. Cardio is probably alot better than he showed just because he was going for the knock out because the fans wanted that and probably expected it.

Probably will get picked up and get some more fights and experience and the UFC will take him back.

I really like Soko, and he's so talented that it probably hurt him, when you expect to walk through people it's harder to train as much as you need to. Hopefully he'll end up in Dream and they can start building a nice LHW div.

I may be the exception, but I don't understand it. It's too much of a risk to release a guy with his raw talent, when another organization could come in and lock him up. I'd try and renogotiate a lower pay scale, and put him on some undercard and fight night bouts. I mean I'd be thrilled to see Soku as a main event on a Fight Night card.

Conditioning is definetely an issue right now. Either he's not training properly, or he's having real difficulty with the weight cut. Something certainly has to change.

He's young, and maybe was thrust in to the spotlight a little too soon. Getting a couple big wins off the bat can go to a fighters head to. On the brightside, it's not like Soku lost to nobodies. He was beaten both times by really tough opponents.

Reminds me of the Cro Cop situation; For whatever reason he just couldn't perform the way people expected.
Sorry to see him go. Hope to see him back.

I completely understand it, the guy it seems is incapable to taking a real shot without collapsing in a heap. I mean Machida dropped him with one punch and he doesn't usually do that(aside from Franklin who obviously recovers better than Soko). I like Gurgel, hopefully he'll learn to fight to his strengths heh...but I doubt it. Also it doesn't remind me of Cro-Cop because Cro Cop was a proven talent before not a fluke machine like Soko.

I don't agree with this at all.

He lost to Machida...ok...he beat Nakamura...ok...he lost a fight with Luiz Cane that he definetly could have won...ok...then he's cut?

I would have kept him around until he either lost to a fish, or lost two or three in a row.

I dont think he should have been signed by the UFC so quick because he is unproven.

He needs to get some more fights outside the UFC and then try to make a comeback.

its tough seeing guys with potential go and people like josh burkman, jeremy horn (sorry fellow utahns who read that) or Pete Sell stay depressing he has had some uh......flukish victories but i think he could be good someday if he trained harder. who knows maybe it will be a wake up call.

I disagree, Pete Sell has much potential at 170lbs.
