With Urijah Faber now slated to fight Jens Pulver at WEC 38 on Jan. 25 in a rematch from the classic June encounter, multiple sources have informed FiveOuncesOfPain.com that current WEC featherweight champion Mike Thomas Brown is now expected to make his first defense against former UFC lightweight Leonard Garcia.

Five Ounces of Pain spoke to a third source close to Brown who indicated that while the matchup is considered likely, it has yet to be finalized. However, bout agreements from both fighters could be secured within the next 1-2 two weeks.

I like this match-up...I know they kicked around the idea of an immediate rematch with the golden child, I'm glad they opted for this fight instead. I never like to see an immediate rematch for a belt unless the first fight ends in controvercy (poor stoppage, injury, etc). I really didn't see any reason why Urijah should get rewarded for his carelessness with a quick rematch.

Zuffa for making the right call.

I thought they would match up Leonard with Urijah, but I this is the more appropriate move so.

I think Leonard looks like an animal. He's huge for 145, and has that idealistic lanky build built for MMA. It's surprising Jens was his first KO. Nothing against Mike. He's a great fighter, but I think Leonard is going to be the next big thing.

The good news is either fighter is going to be an interesting match for Urijah (assuming he beats Jens Pulver).

Leonard Garcia is one of the most underrated fighters out there in this weight class, I could totally see him walking away with the belt.

Brown vs Garcia will be a great fight. Brown is tough as nails. handled Faber well. Garcia has no let up and heavy hands. His fight with Roger Huerta was a war, he knocked the snot out of Jens.
